Samurai Comics One more time elaboration

Perhaps I should explain something. What originally drew me to Usagi Yojimbo, since I had heard of it but never really considered it to be my thing (ignorant, wasn't I?) was the art. It is VERY similar to mine. I saw Usagi and said to myself "WOW! You CAN draw that way and still be popular!", so Usagi was a big inspiration to me. Do you think that if I drew people that way (very much like what you find in comic strips) it could still retain its appeal? Or would it just look silly? If people would still read it, I'd rather do it with people instead of animals, since everyone, no matter what anyone said to the contrary, would just call me a copycat of Usagi. Do you think that a comic book in this style could still make it?

If you don't try, you will never know. When it comes to art, there is no "right" and "wrong". This is no science, it's guts. So publish something and see what people say. Some will like it and some will hate it - there are always all kinds of people and there is no way to tell in advance if you will be successful if you don't do it.

Just as Yoda said: Do. There is no try.

Cartoony style comics

Look at the success of Groo the Wanderer and Bone, both of which are done in a cartoon kind of style... It can be done, whether or not it is done in an anthropormorphic style...

Thank you all. And by the way, I do intend to put up a website with my comic on it (not the samurai one, since I'm still figuring all that out). It will have my comedy series "Manga Bums" which is about three manga creators. To give you a bit of a sneak peek:
Episode one is about the three "bums" being taken to Happy Happy Hades by Happy Happy the horribly disfigured Chinese Cereal Demon.
It's basically just the wierdest stuff that I could come up with. I'm told by friends who read the prototype that it's funny, so I decided to go to the next stage. I hope to have the site up by the end of December. I'll let you guys know when it goes up.
Thanks again!
(oh, and I decided to go with the People, rather than the funny-animal style. I hadn't thought about Groo or Bone, and that's really a good point.)
