What I do for a living is...
degrade myself intellectually, answering phones at a call centre.
You'd think degrees in History, Psychology and Teaching would lead to a good job, wouldn't you? The lesson here, kids-- it's an age of specialization, and generalists (who made out VERY well during the Renaissance) aren't much in demand.
OK, now someone say the good cool thing they do and lift this cloud.

Currently, I do grunt work in a library. Eh, not the best, but it did give me easy access to all of the Usagi books when the district picked 'em up.
Eventually, I'd like to do art and design... maybe even a little comic-book type illustration of my own, if the opportunity ever presents itself, but it's not too big a priority.

I sell China, glasses, flatware and other restaurant equiptment. My title is National Account Specialist. I handle Disneyland. Like Takematsu, I have the Renaissance background with degrees in History and Political Science. My career sort of found me when I wasn't looking.
Take courage Takematsu! It is who you are not what you do that is really important. Course I wouldn't advise trying to pay the rent with that logic.

I'm an engineer. I hold a BS and a PE in mechanical engineering... a higher education doesn't guarantee success, but certainly doesn't hurt! My advice to those seeking a career... Takematsu is right, for the most part. If you get a degree, make sure you get it in the field in which you intend to work. Getting a general degree for a degree's sake is not advisable in today's job market. I know many people who got a bachelor's degree in general fields of study which they most likely would not have ended up in. They got the degree in hopes that by merely having the degree, job opportunities would open up all over the place. This just doesn't happen anymore, unless you opportunity finds YOU. Everyone's getting degrees these days, and there is so much competition.
The best way to do it and be happy in your job is to find a career/degree that matches your interests and hobbies. I've always been into design, automobiles, electronics, bikes, computers, and building things...hence I got the engineering degree to get paid for doing what I enjoy.
Regarding higher degrees, like Masters and PHD's, get these only if the job you want requires it. If you get the higher general degrees for degree's sake, thinking that it will place you in a higher spot competitively, you'll end up right where you would be if you just had the bachelor's. Plus, for jobs which don't require the higher degrees, you might end up being labeled as overqualified!
Of course, there's nothing wrong with being a career student. If that's what you want to do, and you can afford it, then by all means do it! Remember it's all about what makes you happy. My 2 cents!

Hmmm... I understand kidneys are worth plenty, and I've got a spare. Heck, the liver regenerates easily.... You may be onto something! It is who you are not what you do that is really important. Course I wouldn't advise trying to pay the rent with that logic.

I'm a professional time waster.
Actually, I'm studying computer science in the public university system in Spain, at the UPC (one of the best technical universities in Spain, IMHO). However, due to its low price (the government pays for most of the studies, compared to the universities in other countries) and high demand, the first of the 5 years/courses that my degree takes (is that the proper title? I don't really know the translation from Spanish to American titles) are designed to kick people out, which means lots of Math, Physics, etc... which aren't completely useless but don't have much practic value. I've spent 2 years in the first course and I still had 2 subjects to pass, which means that I had to look for another university to keep studying. This is gonna be my 3rd year as a university student (I'm 19, I'll be 20 this very month) and the first year at my new university. Hopefully I'll pass this year
.
I usually work in summers. Finding a half-time job compatible with your class schedule around here is pretty hard, or at least it is for me (I'm awful at organizing my own time, as well as lazy, so I have it all
), so I leech my parents for a living (a situation that I don't really like, and plan to solve as soon as I can).
I dream of becoming a videogame programmer, and someday having my own studio. I wanna make games that tell good stories, that make people think and test both their intellectual and physical skills. I wanna make enjoyable games. The market here is really bad so I plan to emigrate to another country once I'm good and ready. Maybe in some years I'll have my own studio and ask Sakai-sensei to license Usagi and make a videogame about him
.
