Bill mentions the 2008 Preview Night, and is referring to last year's Bear Drive. There was no Bear Drive this year. If there was one, you bet I would have posted about it here.Steve Hubbell wrote:Oh man, Hannah had another "Bear Drive" and no body mentioned it ahead of time!!!khyron82 wrote:And just to let you know, my first priority on SDCC 2008 Preview Night was to see you and contribute to your daughter's stuffed bear pile (uh, and pick up that rokurokubi commission too!)

Yeah, I guess I could have worded my post a little more clearly... My apologies.
And a bit of a correction regarding that Kotobukiya exclusive figure numbers at this year's SDCC... 300 units on Preview Night, 150 for Thursday, and 50 for Friday... Similar pattern for the other exhibtors offering exclusives as well.

It was great to see the UY Dojo members!!
As always, Stan's panel is fun.
Some of my "handlers" attended and they don't know a lot about UY but they laughed at some of the things and seemed to enjoy it.
I think the questions that were asked were good, and some of it lead to new info I hadn't heard before. Also fun to have Diane there!!
I was sorry I didn't have time to get something done for the tribute books. But the presentation of it was awesome.
By way of apology/excuse for my epic fail: I had 2 other 4-day conventions in the past couple months, including competing at the Anime Expo masquerade as part of a 4-person skit on July 4th weekend. I was sick after both of those cons...and yeah...it makes me sad because I wanted to do a small piece of art for the book, and it wasn't possible.
While Twilight certainly didn't help, I don't think that's the only thing that has "ruined" Comic Con, at least for me. Greed and rude human behavior is why I won't be going back next year.
Greed for the rare collectible, the autograph, the piece of hype info that has turned the place into Line Con and Push, Shove, and Walk Over anyone under their line of sight or preventing them from snagging that tshirt they are tossing out somewhere (I run the other way when there are things getting tossed out). Yes, there are many people who are nice and polite, but the rest of the fanatics outnumber that.
I like to go to cons to be with friends for fun. Being bounced around in a crowd is not.
I notice that I never take pics of the booths in the past couple years I've been to Comic Con, because I'm short and the crowds are too much. It's amusing to see Todd's pics. ;p
Anyway, it's always relaxing to visit Stan's booth for a few minutes during the day, hoping also to catch another UY member there.
And now I'm happily caught up with UY comics again (now that I have no comic shop in the area anymore), and have the new sketchbook.

Yeah, the lines, the crowds, and the demand for con exclusives is getting to the point where it is becoming ridiculous.
Take the Lantern action figure giveaways at the DC booth. They were selling 1500 of each one, to be offered each day. So if you wanted one, you had to get up early, wait in line, and rush to the DC booth to get in line. This is bad enough for one toy, much less if you are a completist and what the whole set.
I wish I had a logical solution to the problem. I guess one bright side is that, for people who are exclusively interested in comics, things really aren't that bad. I got everything I wanted on my list with no problem whatsoever.

Or if you wanted the set, it went for $450 in the charity auction...
My photos are now up for everyone to have a gander

Chris Schweizer posted his Comic-con experience on his blog. There is even a Crogan's March drawing that I gave him.

I love your Crogen's March drawing! I hope it gets published in one of Chris' future issues....Stan Sakai wrote:Chris Schweizer posted his Comic-con experience on his blog. There is even a Crogan's March drawing that I gave him.

Wow! I know this doesn't have anything to do with Comic Con (which I hope I can attend NEXT year), but I just read the 26 page sample for Crogan's Vengeance on Chris's site, and it looks incredible! Post-English Revolution saling, with sailors and a crazy captain? Anybody who liked films like Master and Commander should check it out!
