Way back in 1999, I did a drawing for the Yushi Daiko company. Taiko are those large Japanese drums. They were recently made into t-shirts. You can see them or order them from their website:

It is a picture of Usagi playing a taiko, printed in gold on a black shirt. Pretty cool.
I met their leaderMasaye Nakagawa, at a convention in Seattle. She is an Usagi fan. She let me play one of the drums onstage, and even invited me to be the "second guest" at a cha-no-yu tea ceremony.

Back in 1999, "YushinDaiko; a Japanese American Taiko Group" performed at the local Anime Convention, where we met STAN SAKAI! Creator, artist and writor for 'Usagi Yojimbo' manga (comic) books. When he saw us perform, then attended our workshop and drummed on our taiko, he drew Usagi playing on our taiko and gave us the framable artwork and permission to use the artwork for our own use! What a wonderful, generous fellow! We were finally able to pull together all the elements together--artwork, graphics, calligraphy (brushed by the late Rev. Tokusei Miyake who was the presiding Rev. at the Seattle Koyasan Temple many years back, and also a personal Tea friend of Masaye's from Urasenke), and $$, so we were able to get the shirts made in time for sale at the upcoming Regional Taiko Gathering to be held here in Seattle October 29, 30, and 31st at the Seattle Center Campus Northwest rooms. For an additional $3.00 s/h per shirt, you can have this shirt sent to you anywhere in the US or Canada or arrange to have it sent elsewhere for an extra charge. T-shirts come in Black or Purple with Gold print or Purple with Silver print. Unfortunately, children's sizes get no price break, as we get no price break on them. There are VERY, VERY FEW children's sizes and smalls, purchase quickly, or they will be sold out. SEND CHECK/MO PAYABLE TO MASAYE NAKAGAWA TO YUSHINDAIKO 5035 - 26TH AVENUE SOUTH, SEATTLE, WA 98108 Shirts will be sent out as soon as your check clears.

I just got a new computer for the internet, a Mac this time, as my PC is rife with viruses that Norton could not eliminate (even their manual deletion instructions wouldn't do it). I know the keyboard layout is the same, but my fingers do not seem to realize it, so I'm always typing mistakes.

I find many of my Usagi shirts to be a bit threatening to some people who just see the swords. I am happy to see Usagi Yojimbo playing the drums as music is essential to being a whole person ( I almost wrote "human"...). Martial arts combat is rhythmic at times.
Stan I am a Mac user. Please let me know if you need any help with it...

WOW! that is so so so so ADORABLE! I got my Yushindaiko Usagi T-shirt (black and gold) yesterday. I like how they give you a history of the two artist involved (Mr. Sakai and Rev. Tokusei Miyake - calligrapher) Another great Usagi T-shirt to wear with pride.

How has the mac transition going? Us mac users tend to preach the benefits of mac like it's a religious cult, but I know the transition from windows world to a mac world isn't always easy.I just got a new computer for the internet, a Mac this time, as my PC is rife with viruses that Norton could not eliminate (even their manual deletion instructions wouldn't do it). I like my iBook a lot, now that I'm getting used to it. A couple of my regular lunch buddies are big Mac users, so I've been getting help from them. I do miss Word though. I may have to buy the program.Maka wrote:

I got a new printer/scanner/copier/card reader yesterday, as my old ones were not compatible with Mac. I'm also getting DSL (I've got to install it today). I feel like I'm on the cutting edge, even though I'm really light years behind.

sometimes its best to stay off the cutting edge, because its really sharp, and sharp things are dangerous. my friend has a really "cutting edge" computer, and he gets alot of viruses, because they get dowloaded onto his system fast, with me, on the other hand, with my dial up dell, it would take hours for a relatively lame virus to get on, im on the dull edge, but virus free, and i dont even have a firewall.
