Today (November 3) is National Culture Day a holiday in Japan. Families also celebrate the tradition of Shichi-Go-San, or Seven-Five-Three.

Families visit shrines to offer prayers for the health of girls at ages three and seven, and boys at ages three and five. Shichi-go-san really falls on Nov 15, but families practice this rite now because 11/15 is not a national holiday.
