Here's a preview of upcoming stories. These will be single issue stories, featuring secondary characters, many suggested by members of the board.
UY 76: Contraband--Usagi escorts a dead man's daughter who is smuggling a package from a foreign doctor. Of course, the port authorities are after them. What is the secret of this parcel that people would die for?
UY 77: After the Rat (an Inspector Ishida mystery)--The good inspector is in plagued by Nezumi the thief. The stakes are raised when the burglar is also accused of murder. A cameo by Kitsune.
UY 78: Samurai for Hire--Reluctantly, Usagi is hired as a lackey by a cantankerous old woman running away from home with all her worldly possessions.
UY 79: Gen and the Dog--Gen and is rival bountyhunter Stray Dog are after the same criminal--Inazuma.

That looks an interesting blend. Arigato gozaimasu, sensei!
Upcoming Usagi.

It will be nice to see Gen and Stray Dog again. Tell me is Gen Sakai-sensei's homage to Toshiro Mifune's Yojimbo character? I thought I'd heard it mentioned some time back. And, does anyone else out there read the original "Lone Wolf & Cub" comics? What do you think of them?

I first discovered Lone Wolf and Cub shortly after I started reading Usagi Yojimbo but really got hooked on them when Dark Horse started to release the series a couple years ago.
I was hoping Stan would do a Lone Goat and Kid solo story.
I am also looking forward to Dark Horse's release of Samurai Executioner, by Koike and Kojima and featuring Kubikiri Asaemon... Coming this June ...

I've read... about half of them, I think. Up to the attack of the zillion Yagyus that splits the team for a little while. Because of the way I've been approaching them (via the Library's collection, and thus just grabbing what's available), I wasn't always getting them in sequence, so some bits just seemed redundant until stuff that was rather obliquely referenced became clear. This was more of a problem with the less-sequential First Comics editions put out in the '80's <coughs dryly, sits further back in wicker-back wheel chair and fidgets with lap-rug>. Overall, they're a pretty good set of stories with occasional flashes of brilliance. I must admit that the less they include over-the-top fantasy-type stuff, the better I like them-- I'll believe a talented swordsman can deal with 10 opponents (heck, I've BEEN one of the 10), but I have a little trouble with the notion of someone training to trap a sword in his skull to give his chums a momentary advantage.

Yay!

Can't wait for this one! Three of my favourite characters together!

What!? Only a cameo!? Kitsune + Ishida needs at least a 3-issue long story!!
The Courtesan +
The Shrouded Moon = Joy!! Oh well, I'm sure it's gonna rock anyway. It has Ishida in it, nothing can go remotely wrong

When I say
Courtesan, I mean
Hair Pin Murders
. Both stories were on the same book, so it wasn't such a big mistake

.
So far, 3
Lone Wolf and Cub books have been published in Spain. They're great, I'm liking them a lot. A funny thing is that the first LW&C book was published at the same time thant UY book 5 (
Lone Goat and Kid), at the Salón del Manga de Barcelona, and since both books have the same publisher, their stand had 2 big banners one next to the other, each one for each book. Watching them together was kind of fun, so I took a picture (I have it somewhere in my PC, if anyone is interested I'll try to get it online).

Hey Stan,
Any plans for Zato Ino in the future? He’s been gone for quite some time. Was his last appearance actually his last appearance?

There are no plans to bring back Zato-Ino. Tomoe will be back though, in UY 81. There will also be a Priest Sanshobo story in that issue.

I think Zato-Ino has earned his retirement, but what about his wife? Maybe she could pop up in a cameo appearance at some point, at least long enough for us to learn what they named their kid.
