My Usagi Ebay auction...Now, before you scold me....

Post by Takeda Shingen »

A while back, I purchased a Fallen Son blank cover that had an Usagi sketch done by sensai on it. It was from Motor City Comic Con, and I remember there was some to-do on the boards because the person who sold it to me (not someone I know, just a random ebay seller) was selling a free sketch, which I agree isn't cool.

Maybe it's karma, but I'm having to sell it now. My point isn't to come in here and advertise the auction, because I know many won't be happy with it being for sale again. I hope to extend an olive branch of sorts to the community to make up for the sale.

I'm not a random "dealer" trying to a flip this and make money off of it. You can see in my gallery that I have purchased several commissioned sketches from Sensai. Those, I'll never sell. But this year, my daughter's school is hiking up tuition, so it's time to scrounge up and come up with some extra dough.

But enough of my sob story. I know this won't make up for everything, but I have decided that the best that I can afford right now is to donate %10 of the final auction value to the charity of Sensai's choice in his name. I know it's not the same as him getting paid for the sketch. I can't go back and redo what the other seller did, but I can try to correct it in my own way.

I hope this eases some of the anger that I'm sure some may have from this item being sold again. Just know that I am not doing it as a business. I'm just a parent doing what all parents would/should do.

Abayo,

Ray

Thank you. I have a son in private school and a daughter just starting at a private college myself, so I know all about tuition.

Thank you for your offer to make a donation, but no need to. With tuitions the way they are, you'll need every dollar you can get.

Cheers,
Stan

Thank you so much for your generosity, sensei. I'll find some way to make it up to you. If times are better for me, and you find yourself at MegaCon in 2009, you'll get a fat tip in your jar :D

You must definitely know about tuition prices, with two children on the books. I'm double-dipping myself, seeing that I'm a student at the University of Florida. Thank goodness there's only two semesters of that left!

Cool, the auction has already reached $50 with a day and a half to go!

Out of curiosity, how much did this go for originally?

Just in case anyone is interested, here are a couple more of the Fallen Son covers which Stan drew at the MCCC....
