WTB Albedo #2 raw or graded

Post by McDuck_Enterprises »

Greetings!

New user and frequent lurker here but long time Stan admirer and Usagi reader (since about 1991 when I discovered Fantagraphics Book 2 on my LCS shelf.)
I have spent the last 5 months dedicated to locating a copy of Albedo #2 for my collection but have either just missed out or the copies were extremely mangled.....I would like to purchase a decent raw or 8.0 and below graded copy to finally put this dream to rest. Preferably a copy with no sigs on the cover.

Thanks for any help,
McDuck

Best of luck on your search, McDuck. With only 2,000 made and people asking for some amazing prices (and getting them), it takes a little luck to capture this holy grail of Usagi Yojimbo. But it has been done in the past, so don’t give up hope. Depending on what you are willing to pay, dojo members often post links to auctions on this forum. That’s how I got my copy (although, I admit it was a lot cheaper ~15 years ago. And it’s only a 7.0-I’m not complaining).

Peace, maka

Thanks for your encouraging reply Maka! I missed a 7.0 in July for the right price on eBay and have been scrounging every hint since. There's a 9 listed now on the same site (and has been there for 3+ months,) but they're about $600-$700 high off the average market price for a 9 (based on the last two years trending...) Yes, there's 2,000 copies, but are there just as many buyers ready to spend the commanding price for that particular issue at any given time? Who knows? I'll continue to keep my daily searches going but in the meantime, I'm happy to finally be part of this community!

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your hunt! I missed out on the lower prices even as recently as 3-4 years ago. I've had to make peace with not owning a copy. 8)

Thanks Jabba! I just finished the Roku statue collection series 1 and 2 and that took YEARS..so I'm prepared for the long haul....it takes a literal mother of the mountain to check everywhere multiple times a day but it will happen! I appreciate the warm welcome!

Welcome to the Board. I love the name that you chose. I am a huge Barks/Rosa fan.

I too need a Albedo 2 but I was trying to do all the pre-Usagi #1 appearances in CGC 9.8 and have come to peace that I won't have a Albedo 2 given the last one in that condition sold for $30,000 (or about the same price as an Amazing Spider-man #1 in CGC 8.0 sells for - let that sink in for a moment).

This is the one thing missing from my collection, that I admit, I wouldn't mind still owning. However I know I'll never find a good copy especially at the prices they are going for. So I wonder what my chances are of finding a raw tattered and coffee stained copy for under $100?
Am I crazy to think I can still find one, even in beat condition, for only low double digit $$?

Thanks for all the replies and insight. The prices for Albedo 2 have really skyrocketed over the years for sure! There was a really ruddy and stained copy that just sold for $1400 last week.

David, my screen name stems from a life long obsession with Barks and Rosa as well. Anthropomorphic characters were always my bread and butter growing up as my mother would not allow superhero comics in the house as she felt that female characters were always drawn in a negative sexist fashion.....so, I stuck with Scrooge and his Indiana Jones type adventures and a little bit later Usagi. It worked out great in the long run!

Wow. That's all I'll say.

Just for comparison purposes, I bought a complete 15 issue set of volume 1 Albedo (including issue #0), all in great condition, about fifteen years ago for $750.

Will trade my Albedo 2 CGC 8.5 for Roku Series 2 complete set and bonus figure (must be in undamaged, new or like new condition, and contain all the boxes, figures, accessories, inserts, etc.) and a maybe little bit of money or additional trade items. The series 2 figures will almost complete my collection. Thanks

Wow! That's a great offer. I got my statues during Roku's scratch and dent sale so I'm out.

The inserts were randomly inserted in the cases so it might be difficult to find someone that has everything on your list.

EDIT: By inserts, I'm referring to the promotional posters and postcards.

Interesting didn't know they were random. Main thing would be box in decent condition, statues, and accessories. Thanks for the info.

I let Roel (the owner of Roku Toys) know you're looking to trade to see if maybe he had any extra sets hidden away. He told me he only has his own personal set left.
