I've come to the determination that I should part with my growing hardcover collection. Having come very close to completing a full Dark Horse run, has fulfilled my need to collect very cool books, and I have had a great time in the process with the help of many awesome board members. But the time has come to move them on to better homes. I have nearly every HC from Volume 8 until now, with the exception of Travels with Jotaro and Space Usagi. The only catch is, I have not read the story yet!

Therefore, I will be offering these HC's up one at a time as I read them. Bear in mind, I will treat them with the utmost care. I never open hardcovers to the spine-breaking point. But these are almost all not original owner. I only came on board for Volume 23, which is actually one I am considering keeping since I have the original artwork for the tip-in. We shall see when I get there.

With any luck, I will be entering school again for a new degree in Radiation Therapy in the Fall, and there will no longer be time for pleasure reading. At least for the next two years anyway. I've built a list of all of the accumulated hardcovers I have and am working my way through them so there are no unread books by semester's start. Wish me luck, the list is as long as my arm...

Anyway, we will begin this thread with Volume 8: Shades of Death, with images and a proper listing coming up shortly.

Images will be provided of each edition as listed.
I will only be asking exactly what I originally paid for each.
There may be a bit of wiggle room for forum members. Maybe.
Unsold editions will be moved to eBAy.

One note of importance: The Grasscutter edition is preemptively on hold for a certain board member, who I unwittingly sniped it from last year.

The first edition I am offering up is really quite a stunning copy. There is literally nothing wrong with it. Some of these have dings here or there, or some dust jacket scuffing issues, but not this beauty. Definitely on the higher side of what I have paid for any of these, but well worth it, and the oldest edition I have in my collection as I never intended to go after the Fantagraphics volumes. Shades of Death, as you know, is the first Dark Horse release in the series.

I cannot understand why you did pick them up in the first place when you did not know any of the material in them?!?no disrespect intended, please..I just cannot follow you on this one..they are quite expensive, aren't they?and it takes a little more work to get hold of them in fine condition I understand....through the internet I gave come accross collectors often mind you but I have never heard of one collecting these highly priced books just for the heck of it and don't read them at all?;)....

In response to coolray, I will offer the following commentary. I've collected comic books avidly for the past three decades, but somehow the anthropomorphic entries never made it into my collection. I was your typical G.I. Joe, Marvel superhero type collector for so long. Then after some time away from the hobby, I reentered and was fortunate enough to be in San Francisco on vacation when Stan's work was on display at the Cartoon Art Museum. I'm very grateful I was able to see that exhibition. After that, I attended Stan's panel at SDCC and was hooked, as if the art wasn't enough. So I wouldn't say I am unfamiliar with the work. I was just expressing my collecting habit in a very forceful manner by attempting to collect these signed editions. I have read all of the Fantagraphics run. However, I have so much on my plate with work and school, that pleasure reading has fallen by the wayside in the past couple of years. Now I have roughly 40 or so editions to read by school's start in Fall.

I've also become a Zen student recently, and the practice has truly allowed me to view my collecting habit from a different point of view. You could say I am reverse collecting at the moment. I like helping out fellow collectors by freeing up items in my collection. Maybe one day, all of my comics and hardcovers will be freed!

Okay, just another update that absolutely every hardcover I have has sold to various private message members. Sadly, I've decided that I need to pay off all of my debt and very hard decisions had to be made. It was an absolute blast collecting these editions, and I fully intend to return to UY when I finish up with school and during breaks.

I'm keeping Bridge of Tears, since I have the tip-in, and love it.

And I'm hoping that all of UY makes its way onto e-reader capability soon. That would be the tipping point for me in the decision to buy one. UY available, sold!
