This is a new one on me. Does anyone know the history of this issue? How many made? Are they really that rare? Looks pretty cool, though, no matter what the history is.
I don't have one..... (in answer to your question on how rare it is)BuckRogers wrote:This is a new one on me. Does anyone know the history of this issue? How many made? Are they really that rare? Looks pretty cool, though, no matter what the history is.
As I am saving my money for another Usage purchase hopefully in the near future I promise not to bid against you if you want to give it a shot!Steve Hubbell wrote:I don't have one..... It is a b/w ashcan edition of Space Usagi volume 2, #1 published by Dark Horse Comics in 1993. Not sure just how many were published.
Yep that's rare. I remember sending you El Burrito comic with the Stan Sakai Usagi Pin up on the back cover. I thought ," I finally found something Steve hasn't seen." But you already had a copy. Of course.Steve Hubbell wrote:I don't have one..... (in answer to your question on how rare it is)
not sure If I plan on bidding. Something about the seller bothered me, his attitude in his feedback comments was off putting. Last one on ebay also sold for a lot more than I really want to pay for one.BuckRogers wrote: As I am saving my money for another Usage purchase hopefully in the near future I promise not to bid against you if you want to give it a shot!![]()
Good Luck!
Already getting too rich for my blood at this time!
There is another one. I think Dark Horse printed the other one for Space Usagi Vol. III. I don't the DH ashcan is as rare. I don't know how the UY ashcans were distributed. I didn't know about them when they came out.BuckRogers wrote:What about the other Ashcan Usagi comics? Is there not another one?
I do not know anything about these "Ashcan" editions. What is the story behind them in general and, if anyone knows, the Usagi ones specifically.
Thank you! I am loving learning about all of this. Really cool stuff!Stan Sakai wrote:Ashcan copies in this case were sent to comic book stores as a preview for both the store owners and potential customers. Ashcans could be as simple as photocopies stapled together or printed up as would a real comic book. A lot of stores had these ashcans laying around for customers to look through. Sometimes they were left out on a table or sometimes tied with a string so no one walks off with them. After awhile, though, ashcans became collectible and publishers stopped giving them out.
There were two Space Usagi ashcans--one of the first Mirage issue, which is the one up of sale, and one of the first Dark Horse one, which has a slicker color cover.
The high bidder retracted their bid in case you changed your mind. Currently $19.99.Steve Hubbell wrote:not sure If I plan on bidding. Just saw that. Let us know if you are going to bid on it, Steve. I do not want to try to bid against you and I might throw a bid out there if it doesn't go too high and you're not interested.Gaffey wrote:Mile High Comics has one. *Nevermind, it sold within the last couple of days. I think it was the DH version.
