Introducing myself...
Greetings, fellow UY fans. Just signed up to the Dojo and figured I should make a proper introduction.
I'm a 25 year old, married, primary school teaching vegan male living in Adelaide, South Australia. My main interests include UY (of course), Terry Pratchett's "Discworld", music, cacti, bonsai and stop motion animation.
The first time I ever heard of Usagi was on the 80s TMNT cartoon. Around the same time I played the C64 game a whole heap of times. I didn't know anything about samurai and so wondered why Usagi would kill himself whenever I slayed too many peasants. Now I know better. I'd always wonder why Usagi would have his own game, since he seemed to just be a minor character on a cartoon. Again, now I know better. When I first visited a comic store about 3 years ago, I noticed some Usagi comics and then realised where the C64 game had come from.
I first started reading comics about a year ago but quickly became fed up with all of the superhero stuff. I decided to give Usagi Yojimbo a go at issue 82 and became hooked straight away. I only continued buying issues up to #85 and then decided I'd just buy the trades. After buying 5 volumes, I've just decided to start buying issues again (as well as the TPBs) and have been filling in the gap since #85 and the current issue. The trades are fantastic but take ages to come out, meaning I'm a year or more behind the regular readers who post here. I'd rather be right up there with the latest as these amazing stories continue to develop.
I've got a few issues in my classroom that have been read and re-read plenty of times.
One of my favourite things about UY is how it has fostered my interest in Japanese culture. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wanted to take part in a tea ceremony since #93. I've also just started to take an interest in bonsai, which brings me to a question:
Have bonsai ever appeared in UY? I know there's been issues on kites and the tea ceremony and other Japanese arts and cultural practices, so I figured it was worth wondering...
Well, that's a really long post from me. Hope I haven't sent anyone to sleep...

Welcome to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo, BonsaiSamurai, the gathering place for fans of Usagi Yojimbo from all over the world.
I continually find it amazing how so many fans of Usagi are employed as teachers!
I do not recall reading any stories (yet) in which bonsai have played a part, unless a character was working on one in the background of a picture. It seems like there would have to be the possability of a story concerning bonsai somewhee out there, waiting for Stan Sensai to get around to telling it.
By the way, nice avatar
Again, welcome to the Dojo!
Abayo.....

I have not yet done a story involving bonsai. I had an uncle who grew and collected them, as well as a bunch of books on the subject.BonsaiSamurai wrote:

Welcome Bonsai
I two am trying to catch up with all the other readers. Usagi is one of those books that once you pick up, you can hardly put back down.I still collect some of the Superhero books but I wont go into a comic shop without coming out with a Usagi book. Its hard to find the Usagi figures though, I really want a gen figure but cant find one. Oh well, any way welcome.

Man, I love the Discworld novels. They're like Monty Python meets Lord of the Rings! Have you read "Monstrous Regiment"? Might be the best one, and a good one for someone to start with who hasn't read any of the series.
They are laugh out loud funny. I'm talking, people will see you guffaw and you'll be so embarassed.

Discworld fans who are also Usagi fans? I love this place! I've been reading Discworld novels since I was 13 (I'm now 25). My favourites are "Small Gods", "Soul Music", "Men At Arms" and "Feet of Clay". The only ones I haven't read are "The Truth" and "Thud!".
To me, "Monstrous Regiment" had a different tone that most other Discworld books. Darker, perhaps. I still enjoyed it though - Igors are one of my favourite characters and I certainly have empathy for a vampire with a coffee addiction.
Favourite characters? Mine are Death, Death of Rats, Susan, the Nac Mac Feegles and Gaspode the Wonder Dog.
I too am guilty of laughing out loud while read Discworld books on the bus...
