I'm a slow reader so it takes me awhile to finish books

Post by Maka »

I'm currently reading these books:

"Full Catastrophe Living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn (Mindfulness meditation)

"Poor Charlie's Almanack" by Charles T. Munger (10 speeches by Munger)

I tend to read magazines more frequently: National Geographic, Paste, Businessweek, This Week

Peace,

Currently I am in the middle of Eragon and also a biography on Harry Houdini and a book on The Beatles. I love to read, so usually I am reading two or three books at a time.

I got some great books for Christmas including the new Houdini biography (not the one I am reading, this is a new one which says Houdini might have been a spy for the US) as well as a great biography on Charles Adams, father of the Addams Family.

My wife and I have a one year old, so my reading time is very limited now, usually on my lunch break at work is when I get the time to read.

Sorry to double post, but I forgot to mention I am slowly making my way through the monster sized collection books of The Complete Calvin and Hobbes and The Complete Far Side. These books are great, insanely heavy, but worth it! I'm also trying to make my way through the Peanuts books that have been coming out, so far I have them all and am enjoying watching Charlie Brown and friends, as well as Charles Schulz, develop over the years.

I just finished Cruddy by Lynda Barry and now I'm reading The Once and Future King by T.H. White (for the first time) and will read The Road by Cormac McCarthy when I'm done with that.

I haven't read The Once and Future King in a while. I remember reading that and The Death of Arthur back to back.

I'm on Antiques Roadkill by Barbara Allan right now.

The last book I read was "The Neverending story" and I always enjoyed "Elric of Melniboné".

I love books on King Arthur and the Round Table. Once and future King was brilliant. Stan, have you ever read The Book of Merlin? It is by TH White as well and is a lost chapter or two that didn't make it into Once and Future King. I read it a few years back, but if I remember correctly, it takes place when Arthur is older and Merlin teaches him once last lesson, this time around they turn into geese. It's great work.

I loved The Never Ending Story, both book and film. What was great about the film is that Wolfganf Peterson took all the best parts out of the first half of the book and made a film out of it all.

Gamer books are interesting. I always find it fascinating how a game actually works from a mechanical standpoint. What's a good robotech book?

JP
I really liked the Zentreadi Rebellion book. But Im a huge HUGE Robotech nut.

I've never read The Book of Merlin. I did read Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave, and the others in her Merlin cycle.

I take it you enjoy the Arthurian legends. Have you ever been inspired by these tales and try to use something like them in your Usagi work?

I also try to read Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings at least once a year. This year they are releasing his Children of Hurin book, which I can't wait to read. I love Tolkien, so much so, my daughter's middle name is Arwen.

Currently Reading: Field of Dishonor by David Weber. I love the Honor Harrington series. Probably my favorite takes on the arthurian myths are the mordred series by Ian McDowell. He casts Arthur and company in very different and darker lights. Decent stuff though.
