surf's up!

Post by Maka »

Hello UY fans,

I just took my two daughters (age 8 and 5) to see Sony's Surf's Up.

It was fantastic! It pokes a little fun of all the penguin movies out lately. And it plays off the surfing documentary style (Step into Liquid and Riding Giants) perfectly.

My older daughter said, "I didn't think I would like it but I loved it."

Completely enjoyable and worth the $21 for the three of us to see it.

Has anyone else seen this gem?

Peace,

Havent seen it, but can't understand how they made ANOTHER penguin movie!

It does look rather cute. Ill end up renting it for my nephew at some point when it comes out on DVD.

Yes, my friend called it "the current penguin fetish." :)

That's one of the reasons I found this movie is so funny - it pokes fun at Happy Feet, Madagascar, and March of the Penguins.

Peace,

At San D Con last year, there were two company's animation panels, back to back.
Yes, you guessed it, among their offerings, we got presentations of both penguin movies at those panels. And they knew it and they made some comments, too.
We thought the same thing--okaaay, so Hollywood must think penguins are the Big Thing?
From what they showed us, Happy Feet looked to be the more usual animated movie story. And I had a feeling Surf's Up was going to be the funnier of the two, and that anyone with knowledge of the surfer culture was probably going to get an extra laugh from it. There were clearly inside jokes I wasn't getting.
Maybe I'll go catch it at a matinee or something.
