Wouldn't an Usagi Yojimbo movie done in this style be amazing?

(Would it have killed them to say "Based on the book by Roald Dahl" instead of "Based on a book by the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?")

Dear Readers,
I was hoping this would be a movie of Franky Furbo by William Wharton (not for children).
Best wishes to all!

I used to imagine an Usagi Yojimbo movie being cel animation done in a style similar to a Miyazaki film, but now, I really like the idea of one being done in stop-motion. If anyone ever makes an UY movie like that, maybe Roel can work on it as a model designer or something. I think that a stop-motion UY movie based on The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy or Grascutter would be great (it would probably be an insane amount of work too).
One difficult problem that anyone who made a UY movie would have to solve would be getting the voices right. I think that if the filmmakers got a group of movie stars to do the voices just so they could have famous names on the poster, that would be all wrong. I'm not really sure what kind of voice I would want Usagi to have. I don't really like Usagi's voice in any of the TMNT cartoons with Usagi that I've seen. Of course, when I read the comics, I sort of imagine the characters speaking Japanese and I look at the English text in the word bubbles as being sort of like subtitles.

An Usagi movie in stop motion doesn't click with me. It's too actiony, and stop motion seems to be more for comedic cartoons. And Usagi in cel-shaded would come out excellent if they got the proportions right and didnt mess up voices. I agree on the Usagi voice in cartoons, it sounds ok, if a bit nasaley. When I read lines like "If the boy is harmed in any way you will pay with your lives", I imagine his voice sounding more like a threatening warrior.

I don't think that there's any reason why stop-motion can't be used for more serious films. In the U.S., it tends to be used for "lighter," more comedic films, but filmmakers like Kihachiro Kawamoto demonstrate that that's not the only thing it's good for.Ronin-K wrote:An Usagi movie in stop motion doesn't click with me.
