Someone on another message board I read addressed this issue:Mayhem wrote:Surely it should keep the Kung Fu Kid title, considering that what Jackie Chan is disciplined in...?!
According to the synopsis, Jaden Smith "knows a little karate," and after the first time the bullies kick his [three-letter synonym for "donkey"], they derisively call him "the Karate Kid." So that's the excuse for title. Obviously, everyone's doing wushu. And yeah, at one point it was called THE KUNG FU KID; rumor has it that Will Smith insisted on the famous title.

Based on some of what I've heard, it sounds like this movie might actually be surprisingly decent.

While we're on the subject, James Rolfe (aka "The Angry Video Game Nerd") did a pretty good video review of the original Karate Kid trilogy (but not The Next Karate Kid):

Karate( kung fu ) Kid.
Konichiwa! I saw this film last sunday and I LOVED it! I actually like it more than the original. But, then again I'm partial to Kung Fu and to Jackie Chan. He does a wonderful job as the kid's mentor.
GO SEE THIS FILM!!! Jaden smith does a great job on this flick. He's got his dad's acting chops!( no pun intended!)
Abayo!
