Four Character Posters for Carl Rinsch’s ’47 Ronin’

Post by Jet_Jaguar »

Still not sure if this movie is going to actually have much to do with the story of the 47 Ronin or not:

I guess Stan just had to cut out the parts with the white guy and the skeleton guy with the shotgun to fit it all into the limited amount of space that he had for his adaptation.

Might I play devil's advocate a little bit and suggest that this movie sounds like it might actually be somewhat worthwhile? (Although I'm not sure why anything being "on meth" is a positive.) Anything with Tengu in it has to have something going for it, right? And the director claims to have insisted on following the real ending of the 47 Ronin's story.

Heard of this version for sometime now, could have sworn it had been cancelled also. Haven't there always been 47 Ronin movie adaptions planned and suddenly petered out? Hopeful for it, and that it will be good quality, yet I am more hopeful it willl appear on screen. Get the feeling it might have more appeal as a t.v. series or movie shorts for some reason, those modes are what turning viewers out more compared to the theatre.

That said, I do want its happening, again there will have to be a wait for news or release.

Review: 47 RONIN Is A Classic Display Of Hollywood Ignorance

Maybe it will at least be a piece of decent Blu-Ray eye candy to watch half-awake on a slow Friday night in a few months. If Stan's version got a little boost from this movie, I suppose that would be ok. Why the makers of the movie felt a need to tie the 47 Ronin into the fantasy adventure movie they wanted to make seems a little strange, are they going to also make a 300-style movie about the Alamo with wizards and monsters? It seems like if they wanted to make a Japanese-flavored romping fantasy adventure, something like this would have been a better basis for it:

Coincidentally, 47 Ronin's Hiroyuki Sanada was in a not-great but fun 80s movie based on the novel directed by Kinji Fukasaku:

Regarding this movie.... I'm liking what I see... but it really should be called something else. I think I'll just ignore the title.

About the only positive review that I've read for this so far:

TBH it looks like another over-use of CGI.

It was in 3D also, but there were only about two or three 3D pop-put scenes. This movie looked like it would have several extra bits of eye candy. On the bright side, maybe this will prop open the door for more classics, that,ah, are more true to the classic.
