Dear UY Dojo,
I was interviewed today for a UCSB class on positive psychology. I told them that long-lasting happiness is based on how strong your friendships are and living a meaningful life. I talked about Stan and all of you. I said something like, "I love comics and I always thrilled when I get something rare or special. But after I have it in my hands, I read it and then I put it in a box. That feeling of happiness disappears in minutes. I might even be thinking about what I can get next to get a little happiness good feeling boost. Chasing happiness as a feeling is a futile pursuit - it never lasts.
But what really lasts are the friendships I made through this dojo. [ Steve sending out Christmas cards, working on publishing UYD comics (and asking me to edit or write an intro), sending me posters from his college event that featured Stan. Kyle taking everyone's orders at SDCC, standing in lines at comic signings, going to see a Totoro pop up art show, going to conventions together, having lunch with Sergio. Grusagi and Daniel going to conventions and SD Comic Museum together, helping me talk to artists and going to breakout sessions together. Maichan and I driving out the museum to see Stan's exhibit. Trevis offering to sell me some of the UY Hardcover set he bought and Steve pitching in when I told him I couldn't afford it. Everyone who gave something for the 25 Usagi Yojimbo SDCC celebration, Todd allowing me to give a speech at the end of Stan's talk. Countless conversations throughout the years on these boards. All you good people who gave the gift basket for Sharon when she got sick again. People coming together for the CAPS Sharon & Stan auctions. All of you who donated to this year's The Hero Initiative charity giveaway. And, of course, Stan (and Julie, Daniel, Emi) for his generosity of time, prizes, hanging out at conventions, and at signings. ]
Investing my time here with all of you has paid dividends way above what I put in. All of our relationships add meaning and joy to my life. And when the comics are done and I have to move into a care home, it will be the friendships I made here and throughout my life, that I will take with me.
So yes, I love Usagi and the stories. Stan keep on making them.
But the long lasting happiness is the people and friends here on the dojo. Thank you!
Peace, maka

We need more positivity like this. 2020 has certainly been a challenging year in many respects so it is important to keep focusing on positive things.

Maka, you are truly one of the Dojo's ultimate ambassadors! I think your words are reflective of many of us here and you should be our official spokesperson!
Thank you for all you do, and thank everyone for being part of this positive and happy family.
