Anybody remember Dalgoda?

Post by Dranatha »

Hi all,

I been rummaging through the quarter bins at my local comic book shop and I came across a book titled Dalgoda. The writer is Jan Strnad and the artist Dennis Fujitake. The book peaked my interest because I remember the artist had done some back up stories in Usagi vol 1. I picked them up thinking it was only 25 cents an issue, nothing to lose. What a find! The story is really interesting as is the art. The book only lasted 8 issues and then had a four part mini-series titled Flesh and Bones. I managed to find 9 of the 12 issues.

Anybody remember this book?

I've known Dennis for about 35 years, but have not been in touch with him lately. He, Gary Kato, and I started out doing hand-made comic books to pass around to each other. Dennis and Gary are still in Hawaii, both freelance artists. Dennis did many of Crazy Shirts' designs and a bunch of calendars. Gary does beautiful landscape paintings, and also Memories of Paradise a graphic novel from Rorschach Publishing/Entertainment. They both also did work on the Elfquest comics.

Dalgoda is probably Dennis' best known work. Gary is noted for Mr Jigsaw.
