Maka wrote:But I currently slowly watching Firefly (Kyle recommendation)
Another fine recommendation by Kyle. I probably wouldn't have ever watched Castle had I not seen Nathan Fillion in Firefly.
I love Firefly and Nathan Fillion. He always crack me up. I recently watched The Rookie just because he's in it.
Last week I also started playing the videogame Halo 5, in which Nathan Fillion is voicing/acting one of the characters. No, I don't play the game because of him, but it's a nice bonus.
I recently started watching the BBC's This Country. It wrapped up its third and final series earlier this year and the first two series can be found on Hulu here in the States.
It is mocumentary series about the struggles young persons living in rural England. It was created and stars a real life brother and sister who play a pair of cousins who are best friends. Both are unemployed and neither is very high achieving and in one form or another both suffer from delusions of grandeur. They play their characters as a pair of knuckleheads who you grow to have sympathy for over the course of the series.
I found the first episode to be good enough that I was willing to watch another. The second and third episodes had me in stitches and from that point forward I was sold.
Here is the first five min of the first episode. It isn't the strongest few min from the show but it is an OK representation of it.
I've been enjoying the HOME series on Apple TV. Mostly because Cheryl loves looking at homes and the stories behind them. It is really inspiring.
I watched the Beastie Boys Story. I enjoyed it but Cheryl couldn't stand that they cussed so much are were pretty idiotic for the most of the movie. But I love band documentaries and I thought it was good. Not Stop Making Sense or The Last Waltz good. Not Spinal Tap good. . But enjoyable.
Maka, have you found Apple's streaming service to be worth the price of subscription?
At this point have subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle, HBO Now, Dropout.tv and Funimation. Don't know that I want/need another but I am curious.
Disclaimer: I don’t watch a lot of tv and I don’t binge watch stuff.
Disclaimer 2: Apple did a promotion if you bought an Apple product that could stream Apple TV content, you will get the first year of Apple TV free. So I haven’t had to pay for it yet.
I haven’t been disappointed in the content of Apple TV. I have watched the documentaries:
-the elephant queen - excellent
-The Beastie Boys Story - reviewed above
-Home - inspiring living
-visible out on TV - tv’s impact on the lives of LGBTQIA people. Really well done and I hope they do one on API people some day (but we aren’t represented very well yet on TV. However, we are represented on YouTube quite well).
I watched the first episode of Little America and I liked it. I will watch the rest.
But I haven’t watch the big shows (The Morning Show, See, Servant, Amazing Stories, Mythic Quest, The Bankers, Hala).
There is only so much time in the day. Sounds like you have a lot of options already. I think you are fine not subscribing to Apple TV. But if you wanted to try it out and see, Apple has a lot of the first episode available to stream for free. Just have to download the Apple TV app, I believe.
