Goin' to California (maybe)
It starting to look like I'll be moving to the LA area in the very near future. After looking around the Dojo, I see that a good many of you are already living there. Anything a noob like myself should know? Any words of advice and the like? I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Welcome to California
Tayocam,
Welcome to beautiful Southern California!
I moved here about 7 years ago from Iowa. There will be alot for you to learn. First rent is crazy high. Also LA apartments typically do not include a refrigerator. Plan to buy your own.
Buy a Thomas Guide first thing. This is a detailed map book that covers LA county. You can pick one up in any book store or large gas station. This book will really help you get to learn the city.
Traffic is as bad as everyone says. Worse than you are imagining right now. No kidding!
Try to live close to where you will work. Best if you can find a route to your job that avoids the freeways. I moved to the San Feranando Valley and worked in LA. It was only 10 miles but a 1 1/2 hour commute, one way.
LA is a fun and vibrant city. I hope you like it. I day I moved in, I went across the street to a sandwhich shop and Cuba Gooding Jr. got in line behind me. You'll get used to lots of new thing here.
Good Luck,
Dranatha

Thanks for the advice!
Actually, I heard about the "no fridge" clause.
Also, I'm in the process of getting a roommate to help ease the rent burden just a tad. And the trucking company where I work has an office out in the LA area, so I put in for a transfer. Just trying to walk through as many doors as I can before they shut!
