Dear Readers,
This week 2 movies based on comic books were ranked first and second at the box office:
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC.
1. "TMNT," $25.45 million.
2. "300," $20.5 million.
I hope this success will cause Usagi Yojimbo stories to be made into great movies!
Best wishes to all!

ps. If Ghost Rider can be made into a movie....
pps. Grasscutter could be the first movie, shown out of order like star wars...

I think the Dragon Bellow Consipiracy would make a fantastic movie!

Yup, but - on the contrary of most Usagi fans - I don't think Grasscutter is the most obvious choice for a feature movie.

Grasscutter has many different characters, many of them being known of us, but not of the general public.

It has a quite intricate plot. (Dammit, who's against who in this movie ? The shogun against the emperor ? The evil ninjas against the good samurai ? And that woman, who is she ? - The witch, you mean ? - No, I mean the ninja girl ! - Ah yes, the one who protects the cute little panda !)

"300" : It's 300 Spartans against 1,000,000 Persians. Simple but efficient. :wink:

Grasscutter not only takes place in the Japan of 1605 (a very unfamiliar place and time for a broad Western audience, right ? Not everybody loves chambara movies...), but also features mythological and political elements that would require much, too much time to explain.

Furthermore, much of the interest of Usagi Yojimbo relies on Usagi's complex personality and tormented past.

As featured in Grasscutter, Usagi would only appear as "the typical good-but-annoying duty-ridden samurai". (hey look, this rabbit is a Communist, he wants the sword to go back to the people, I always knew those Japanese were all Commies, and incidentally my grand-uncle Abe who fought at Guadalcanal once told me, "Yeah, those slant-eyes were a real pain in the a...")

See what I mean ?

I agree with MikeM, The Dragonbellow Conspiracy would be a great story to make into a film. Samurai would also be interesting, but maybe a little short.

DBC would probably make the best movie. Grasscutter, I always thought, would make a helluva miniseries.

I've actually thought that "Samurai" and the first Homecoming (from Vol. 1) story put together do pretty well in movie form.

Yeah, with Circles thrown in as the closing act of the movie. :D

Hmmm...Actually, I think "Circles" would tie in better overall!
