Hello,
I was quite shocked by the news today that great parts of California seem to be ablaze (ok, I missed yesterdays news completely, I have to admit).

Is there anybody here affected by this??

We're okay. However, the air is thick with smoke so many people have sore throats, runny noses, headaches, etc.

Shogun Todd was in danger about a year ago, so I have been concerned about him.

Fortunately Anaheim Hills appears to be the only area of the OC not affected by the firestorm. This is most likely due in part to luck, but also because we had a close call back in early March of this year, which left most of the area near my house bare (no fuel for fires). I live right next to the Weir Canyon/Santiago Canyon trail loop, an area in the hills reserved for hiking and mountain biking. Lots of homes near there. I actually go mountain biking up there all the time and it's completely barren. We did have a scare though....

Over the weekend I noticed huge plumes of smoke appearing just south of where the fires had struck back in March and drove out to see what was going on. It was actually a new fire that had broken out in the city of Orange, just north of Irvine in the Foothill Ranch/Portola Hills area (this one is now called the Santiago fire). It was about a mile away. Because we were upwind of the fire, we were safe. I can't say the same for the other folks living there. This one was caused by arson and has already claimed 20,000 acres and about a half dozen homes.

I do know a lot of people who have had to be evacuated. Fortunately the Santiago fire is now 50% contained.
