Usagi Yojimbo DojoBoard

Other than Usagi, one of my favorite pastimes is listening to music. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Hawaii where the musical culture here is incredibly diverse. I have a lot of love for many genres, but I must say that I'm partial to anything that rocks. Hawaiian, classic rock, modern rock, oldies, alternative, blues... it's all good!

On another note, I can't begin to explain how excited I am that my favorite band is coming to the islands next month. Incubus! I stood in line way early in the morning to get tickets. Totally worth it...

So what do you all listen to? Favorite genres? Bands?

dude jjaja i really love all tipe of ROCK!!! its my favorite music one of my favorits its Guns n Roses , Metallica , Icubus, Gorillaz, The Rolling Stones etc. but also i like asian music like taichi-music or simple music of a shaolin temple its relaxion and if you belive or not i put taichi music when i read Usagi Yojimbo that make a climax XD jjejejje .........

I am a big Radiohead fan as well as The Decemberists..Tori Amos...Spoon. Gorillaz, but mostly for the Tank Girl artwork. I just saw a few local bands out in Portland that blew me away. Can't recall their names, lots of brass and drums.

I guess I really like the indy thing, lots of variety.

I love Guns N Roses! Appetite for Destruction is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's also nice to see another Incubus fan! haha. Taichi music on when you read Usagi? Nice!

I very much agree. Indie music is quite varied. Another plus is that the songs aren't overplayed on the radio (at least in Hawaii). Radiohead is an awesome band. They have a very unique approach to song writing.[/quote]

Nice. My dad is really into jazz, funk, and all that great stuff. Any recommendations on songs that I could get into from them (I'm a novice when it comes to Jazz)?

In college: U2, NWA, Ice Cube, Sinéad O'Conner, Michelle Shocked, Dead Kennedys, Traci Chapman, Poi Dog Poundering, Ani Difranco, Shawn Colvin, and Neil Young.

Ahhh. U2. That's another band that I never really got into yet. I've heard their strongest material is on Joshua Tree. I think they came out with an anniversary edition recently. Maybe I'll give it a listen one of these days.

I think one of the things I like about U2 is that everything they do is "Their's" but it does not all sound the same, they keep trying to do something new and differant.

I would have to say it is a close call between Joshua Tree,and Actung Babe as the strongest.

I bought the anniversary re-release of Joshua Tree mainly for the concert DVD which came with it. Same reason I bought the last greatest hits set, because I wanted the concert DVD which came with that set.

Now I am impatiently waiting for the U23D movie to hit the theatre here.

I'm into rock, blues, a little jazz, a hint of classical.

Led Zeppelin, NIN, The Cure, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Bob Marley. To name just a few.

Being the son of an auctioneer I grew up with access to tons of music in almost any format avalible. So my tastes are pretty much all over the board. The first of anything musical I can remember is Pual Simon. You can call me Al gets me all nostalgic.

My main geners include folk, metal, louge, classic rock and classical just to clense the mind.

The top of my bands or artsists list includes Flogging Molly, Johnny Cash, Gordon Lightfoot, Ozzy, Arlo Guthrie, Masterplan, Journey, They Might be Giants, Queen, Aerosmith and the Rat Pack.

Everyone in Hawaii LOVES Bob Marley. I was just listening to Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won. Great live album.

I can't get enough classic rock. Thin Lizzy, Led Zep, Queen, GnR, the Who, etc. That generation was great for music. As for metal, I admire the musical skill/precision required to pull off those amazing riffs and solos. I do have to be in the mood for it though.
