Poll: Your favorite Wuxia movie?

Post by Maka »

Hello UYD,

I just watched Zhang Yimou's HERO. My favorite martial arts movie is Iron Monkey (It's so humorous) but HERO has the most beautiful scenes. For example:

Fight between Jet Li and Donnie Yen (who played Iron Monkey):

This is obvious but the colors and locations are beautiful in this movie. Really nicely done. I highly recommend it for teenage and up.

Peace, maka

I'm gonna have to go with Hero on this one. I have yet to see Drunken Master but I did enjoy all other three movies. Though Hero was by far the more beautiful and complex. Plus it indulged in my passion for caligraphy. Iron Monkey seemed more like a super hero movie not that theres anything wrong with that. I love a good ham fisted tale of heroism. And Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon to me seemed more about visuals and interpretation than anything. Hero was multi-faceted, meaningful and a tastament to ones dedication to an ideal.

I voted for Drunken Master II. Another HK martial arts movie I like a lot is Corey Yuen's Fong Sai Yuk, and of course, Tsui Hark's Once Upon a Time in China movies are worth seeing too.

Crouching Tiger...

I know many Wuxia fans aren't fond of this flick, as it has little action and too much romance. But I absolutely loved this movie. I saw it like five or six times in the theatre when it came out, which is unheard of for me in this day and age.

But it was so beautiful. And nothing get to me more than two forlorn lovers like Mu Bai and Shu Lien.

Just a fantastic movie.
