I was reading about Sensei Sakai and I saw that he has seen Fiddler on the roof. Has anyone else seen it? It's good. Really sad, though, but I still like it.

Hello Hamsterkid77,

I love musicals. Fiddler on the Roof is one of the best movie adaptations of a musical. We actually had "Sunrise, Sunset" as one of our wedding dance songs with our parents. It is sad but it is also beautiful and hopeful. I love that musical.

West Side Story is very good too. Sad but amazing sets, dancing and songs.

I think my favorite movie adaption of a musical is Jesus Christ Superstar. Although I hope someday they will do another Les Miserables movie.

Peace, maka

Fantastic movie! I saw it as a kid in the theatre, most likely when it was first released since it came out in 1971 (after a quick check on the IMDB).

I think I've seen it again sometime since then, or maybe just a portion of it, but not sure just when.

there is a youtube video of a Japanese production of the play which pretty cool.

I worked on a production of the show in DC at Olney Theater Center. It is one of the few musicals I actually enjoy. The set and costumes we did were nothing compared to the actual Broadway production, Though they were still very good and very professional. Nothing odd about this either since Olney is a professional play house. We also had an awesome equity cast form the DC/Baltimore and beyond area. Still costumes were a pain to repair and clean, and this was all leading into and through Christmas break.

BTW anyone in the Baltimore/DC area please come out this Jun to July to Historic Ellicott City. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is preforming at the Potapsico Female Institute ruins, Cyrano de Burgerous and 12th Night. I am their prop master and form what I have gathered and made thus far will be awesome!!!!

Hah, I don't seem to do musicals. But I do sometimes find myself going to on occasional death metal show or 2.

Ah, I love Fiddler on the Roof.
I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but I saw a high-school production and fell in love with the story and songs. I've seen the movie numerous times, but I honestly think I prefer the stage performance.
For anyone who enjoyed the play/movie, I'd recommend the book.
You should be able to get it pretty cheap on Amazon.com...
