Apparently, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the new movie due out next year will be aliens this time:

I'm all up for "artistic reinterpretation," but I don't know how aliens from outer space would be any less goofy for an origin than radioactive ooze...

Could you imagine what he would do with Usagi if he could? *shudder* I know, I shouldn't even talk about scary things like that... Nice to know that Usagi is safe since it's creator-owned.

Honestly I'm less upset about the idea than I am about Michael Bay being involved.

^Huh. Me too.

But I'm not too upset. The first TMNT movie is very good, and the other 3 are goofy fun. That isn't a bad run!

After 13 Assassins i would be interested to see what Takashi Miike would do with UY.

Still holding out for that epic adventure video game though..

Both Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird have chimed in about this development. Eastman is fully supportive, while Laird is...well, it's kind of hard to tell:

Michael Bay is primarily known for destroying the childhood of most 80's and 90's children by making those horrible CGI Transformer movies with Shia LaBeouf. Well, he's known for two things - Transformers and movies that seem to explode for no reason. I don't know if I can explain it better than Robot Chicken did (last five seconds are a bit racey).

That was a bloody brilliant film! Would be great to see someone like that get their hands on the Turtles. *thumbs up*

Eastman also was supportive of the idea of Venus, the female Turtle from "The Next Mutation". (I read this somewhere on Peter Laird's TMNT blog.)

Laird was being sarcastic in his initial response. He later made another blog entry clarifying this.

Apparently the whole thing is now "delayed" : http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/p ... les-338301

I read an article that stated "delayed 5 months". The reasons they gave were tweaking the script to beef it up and they also wanted to trim a little $ to stay in budget. What my brain tells me after reading that is, "rework/remove the alien part of the script". By doing that they will make people happier and they'll save $ by needing less special effects for alien spacecraft/outer space part of the story.
