Favorite Miyazaki Movies

I've been on a Miyazaki kick lately, recently re-watching Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away (my first time seeing these on Blu-ray, and they blow the DVD's away!), as well as watching the documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness. I'm sure we have lots of Miyazaki fans on here and was wondering about your favorite Miyazaki directed movies.
My top 3 picks are:
1. Princess Mononoke
2. My Neighbor Totoro
3. Spirited Away

I love them all, so it's hard to pick three... but I picked these:
1. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
2. My Neighbor Totoro
3. Spirited Away
Nausicaä is my top choice since it was the manga that introduced me to Miyazaki.

I voted for Totoro. But I would have voted for Kiki and panda go panda if they were options. Peace, maka

Nausicaä would have been my fourth choice. Narrowing it down to 3 choices was hard, but I figured I had to make a cutoff somewhere or I'd just vote for them all!

Kiki's on the list. Panda! Go Panda! was directed by Isao Takahata. I haven't seen that one yet, but will try to find a copy to watch.

I was greatly tempted to include Princess Mononoke, as it was the first (and so far only) Miyazaki film I have seen on the big screen.

I voted Totoro, Spirited away, and Castle in the Sky.
Hard choice, I love most Miyazaki movies

I love them all, but I typically single out Porco Rosso as my favorite. If I'm feeling down, that one especially lifts my spirits.

Back in the late 80s, HBO aired a dubbed version of Nausicaa titled Warriors of the Wind. I still have it on VHS tape. When the new official DVD version was released awhile ago, I find the differences between the two versions to be interesting.
I've seen the majority of his films but the ones that left a lasting impression on me was Nausicaaa, Castle in the Sky and Howl's Moving Castle.

Interesting. I no longer have the VHS.... what were some differences that you recall?

Separate dub and release. See "Warriors of the Wind" under releases -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nausica%C ... ind_(film) . Although in this case it was also heavily edited by the looks of it.
A number of companies released some of Ghibli's output in the West during the 80s and early 90s. When Disney got the rights, it pretty much redubbed all the films itself for its own releases. So you'll find two dubbed versions of some films such as Kiki's Delivery Service. I've seen both versions of that. I actually prefer the original dub to Disney's version!

I would have to watch both versions again to find any edited or deleted scenes between them. I understand that some of his mature themes were probably edited in favor in promoting the film as being more 'kid-friendly' at that time.
But what really stands out to me is the change in voice actors and changes in dialogue. I thought Warrior of the Winds had some terrific voice casting and so upon hearing those changes in the new edition, some of the characters felt 'off' to me. Some of the changes in dialogue were glaring although knowing this was probably a result of the early editing (along with any issues in the translation itself) makes it somewhat more tolerable.
For it's time though, I still love Warriors of the Winds, probably one of my earliest exposures to anime.

I have the Fox VHS dubbed version of Totoro. I haven't seen the Disney version. But I have a feeling I won't like it as much. Whatever version I watch first is usually the one I end up liking the most.
