Be prepared for Irma. She just hit Cat 5. Hopefully it will shift north before Florida.

This was a view from my cousin's house in Houston (last week). It was built 5-6 feet above ground so the water only came up to the porch. The house across the street wasn't as lucky.

Since you're far enough up the coast and inland, hopefully you don't have to deal with the hurricane too much. Stay safe!

I'm not a fan of the latest "projection". Winds will be over 110mph even up the coast. We don't have to worry about flooding or anything like that,
but our neighborhood is full of oak trees so I can only hope they stay upright... :) Hurricane Charley (2004) was a mess.

There's still time for it to make a quick right turn back out into the Atlantic.:) The Bahamas are going to get hit bad!

The caribbean got hit bad obviously, the French President was talking about how their island, Saint Martin, was battered badly, the 3 strongest buildings didnt last long.

If youre in South Florida dont ignore any calls for evac but hopefully it doesnt come to that. Stay safe.

To any Dojo members and their families in Hurricane areas.... stay safe!

It's funny.... someone on another forum was saying that they wouldn't want to live in California because of the 'fear' of earthquakes, and not knowing when they will hit. The person said they prefer to live somewhere with hurricanes, because they can prepare for what's coming.
I dunno, but I think I'll take earthquakes any day over hurricanes or tornadoes.

Haha seriously, I mean in socal how many quakes do you even feel? In norcal they are rare. We just had a tiny one last week that I didnt even notice. It's the whole "big one" we are due for which hollywood has made everyone aware of. The chances of that happening in our lifetime, or our kids, or theres, etc. is so low. But how many hurricanes have happened in the past few decades? Not to mention people who live where tornados happen which blows my mind, you couldnt pay me to live there.

The only thing we could do is visit friends in Atlanta and the storm looks to be going that way now. The roads heading north are packed so it's time to hunker down and hope for the best. Like I said before, we aren't in a flood zone. The only thing we have to worry about is massive oak trees uprooting and falling on our house or knocking out power lines. It's beautiful outside right now (89 degrees). It won't be as beautiful if we lose A/C.

Oh and if leave, who's going to protect my Usagi collection? :P

Thankfully, there's still time for it to change course again. The more west it drifts the worse off Florida will be. The northeast is the nasty side of the storm.

I went out and purchased my first grill just in case we lose power. Not a fan of charcoal, but it's slim pickings out there.

Well we all are rooting for it to leave you alone lol. And charcoal is the way to go! Taste so much better than propane imo.

Stay safe Gaffey!
I'm following the news and this is serious. I've never experienced a serious natural disaster (where I live things like this never happen), so I can't imagine the situation, but according to the pictures and the media Irma is horrifying...
