Hi. See the guy in my avatar? That's Hazama, one of the baddies from a videogame franchise called BlazBlue. BlazBlue is a series of fighting games that originated in 2008 and it celebrated its tenth anniversary last year. It's a fighting game with numerous creative ideas for characters like androids, a sentient blob, a girl wielding two big revolvers, a lolita vampire, and so on. It also has an insane story that is pretty hard to keep up with.

Also, just like Usagi Yojimbo, BlazBlue also incorperates Japanese mythology into its mythos. For example; if you read the Grasscutter prologue chapters you'd know that Grasscutter's official name is Kusanagi. In BlazBlue, Kusanagi is the codename for a Murakumo unit called Mu-12. Speaking of which, Murakumo, the original name for Kusanagi, is the name of the series of "units" that Mu-12 is a part of along with Lambda-11 and Nu-13. Also, Takama-ga-hara is a programming system to maintain space and time. Also, the three main gods of the Japanese pantheon, Amaterasu, Tsukiyomi, and Susanoo are special computer systems that are powerful and essential in running the world, with Amaterasu being the Master Unit. Finally, Izanami is one of the franchises main big bads.

It’s always cool when creative teams build research into their creations. Adding that extra layer of historical and/or cultural authenticity make storytelling/gameplay more enjoyable. I’m glad you enjoy that game and could share it’s cultural ties to Usagi/Japan. Peace, maka
