Yo'; Just this past weekend I was able to find two more "Lone Wolf & Cub" flicks on DVD. COOLNESS!!!! I already had "Babycart at the river Styx",and now I have "Sword of Vengance" & "Babycart in Peril". They're put out by a company called Animego. There are four of the seven out now,so, I am now looking for the fourth one that I am missing. And so far they are all COOL flicks!! I was also able to find a DVD copy of Shintaru Katsu's last "Zatoichi" flick.{also COOL!!} And I have Sakai-sensei and his wonderful creation to thank for getting me into this genre. So, Domo-arigato Sakai-sensei!! I also picked up some cool back issues of Usagi and the "Shrouded Moon" trade paperback as well. So, altogether a great weekend!! ABAYO DUDES!!!

I ran across this page while running a search for Lone Wolf and Cub / Kozure Okami on Google using the Kanji instead of the title in English or standard alphabet.

Sorry, it is in Japanese... but it does have a photo gallery...

I believe it concerns a recent television series instead of the series with Tomoboro Watanabe (sp. ?), the actor from the film series.

I had a good look at the actor playing Ogami Itto and it's NOT the actor from the film series!Tomisaburo Wayakama. I think he died a little while ago. FYI

Under the little scroll bar, there's a couple of columns of link-boxes. The upper-right of these brings up a cast list, which might be helpful if you have a REALLY BIG monitor and can read kanji better than I can. The actor playing Ogami Itto seems to have three characters in his family name, the middle of which is "Dai" or "O" (big), if I'm right about which bits of text indicate the names of the actors. How's that for not a lot of helpful?

Probably a lot better, or more accurate than what Altavista's Babel Fish program does... i.e. the kanji for Goseki Kojima (or vice versa) ends up translating as Kojima Hardness Evening.

Actually, I want to brag now-- I was able to make out that the name "Itto" is composed of characters I'd translate as "Single Sword". I could be "One Sword", but that sounds way too Aztec.

Wasn't there Six in the Lone wolf and Cub series. I have them all on VHS, I need to upgrade.

I also beleive that My sensei originaly let me borrow his Japanese videos and he had two versions of the Lone wolf and cub movies, One was played by a skinnyer actor as the Man him self and was a lot less bloodyer.

Yo'; the "skinnier" guy was Kinnosuke Nakamura and it was the Japanese T.V. version of "Lone Wolf & Cub". They've packaged I think 4 episodes and called it "Fugitive Samurai". It used to be on here in Canada on a "multicultural" station under the name "Iron Samurai". It was pretty good and yes, a little less bloody. As for the "official" releases of the films, 4 of them are available here on DVD( I have 3 of them now) plus I have on VHS 2 "Americanised" versions called "Shogun Assassin" & "Lupine Wolf". One of them was also called "Lightning Swords of Death" when it originally came to North American theaters(during the "Kung-Fu craze" of the 70's).I was in highschool at the time. All in all, a cool series of films and it's nice to have the "official" versions of them now.

Dear Readers,
I also enjoyed the 82 episodes of the Nakamura Japanese T.V. version of "Lone Wolf & Cub". The series did a great job of following the original storyline. The acting was very good and although low budget, the scenes were very rich. If you are a serious LW&C fan, these are a must.
I got mine from cheapsamurai.com but he is not currently doing business.

The Dark Horse translated printed version is an excellent read.
The Japanese version is on better paper and a thinner pocketbook (also cheaper:per book cost: 563 yen or less than $6 USA vs. $9.95 USA for Dark Horse). Enjoy!
