May he rest in peace. When I first read the series, it took me a while to appreciate as it was a slow and sometimes disturbing read, but I LOVED it when I finished it. The "Eureka" moments for me came when I noticed that the series dated back to the 1960s. And also realizing how much of it I saw in other series, like Vagabond. (And obviously Usagi Yojimbo.

I've know of Lone Wolf & Cub for years, probably longer than I've known Usagi Yojimbo. My introduction wasn't through the manga, but from TV and film. I didn't start to actually read the manga until a year or so ago, and I am currently working my way through the Dark Horse omnibuses. The manga took me a while to warm up to, but once I got hooked, I was entranced by Koike's writing. The stories are often harsh and poignant, yet they are wonderful to read, and I tend to finish most with an "Ah-ha" moment. May his spirit find peace, wherever it may decide to reside.
