Has anyone else had the opportunity to see this? It dives into a lot of themes I've been fascinated with for a while - Christianity in feudal Japan, the nature of faith, etc.

Yes!
I saw the trailer a few days ago and it sure is an interesting matter!
I first thought of the Usagi story 'Contraband'. I didn't expect the final of it.
Let's see what Spidey and Kylo can do about it

Re: Scorsese's Silence
I saw it a couple of weeks ago and liked it a lot. Was surprised to see weirdo Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto as part of the cast, also by finding out that it was actually filmed in Taiwan. I'm interested in reading the Shusaku Endo novel at some point, in one interview, Scorsese said that he was reading it while in Japan for his role as Vincent Van Gogh in Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. There's also another movie adaptation of it made in Japan in the 1970s, based on the plot description, the ending sounds a little different from the Scorsese version:

Wasn't "The Hidden" based on something like that?Ben wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASU4wvY0CbE
