Monday marked Setsubon (seasonal division). It is the day before the beginning of Spring according to the lunar calendar. Children are dressed in yellow kamishimo kimono jackets and menaced by adults dressed as oni (ogres). Roasted beans are thrown to bring good luck in the coming year and drive out bad luck (and oni).

I would guess that any child in the world would enjoy throwing beans at adults (oni)
