Hi everyone!
I'm gonna start these little series of posts in order to get the word out on several manga masterpieces which I think are completely overlooked.
The first I'm gonna do because both me and Sakai-san are huge fans of this man and his works.
"The Phoenix" by Dr. Osamu Tezuka.
C'mon, you didn't honestly think it would be someone else, did you?
This manga is the ingenious saga of a phoenix who witnesses life and death on earth, presenting compelling stories and basic truths spoken by the phoenix herself.
Why is this manga so cool? Well, first of all, its ridiculously deep for a Shonen manga. Seacond of all......well....its Tezuka!
This manga is also Tezuka's life's work, spanning over 30 years.
It was so popular, in fact, that Tezuka actually designed a giant, ornate clock featuring the Phoenix as the centerpiece. It can srtill be seen in Japan, but I forgot where it is.
Why is it been overlooked here in the U.S.? Because the story is just too deep for normal comics readers.

I really wanna get this series, but even though it's published in Spain (and has won a couple prizes,) either I don't have the money or the store has run out of them. Right now I cannot find it anywhere, so I guess I have to wait for the reprint. But as soon as I can I'll buy it.
