Buddha was the first series by Osamu Tezuka I bought, and I instantly fell in love with it. The rabbit story in there was a kind of parable that the Great Master Asita (spelling?) was telling his disciples: a pilgrim was starving in the middle of a huge snow blizzard, and a rabbit, a fox and a bear passing by decided to help him. Both the bear and the fox were able to find food, but the rabbit couldn't find any. So, when they all gather, the rabbit tells the pilgrim to start a fire and then the rabbit throws himself in, so the pilgrim will be able to eat him. The fox, the bear and the pilgrim stared in awe to the rabbit's decission, and at the moment when the pilgrim started eating the rabbit, its soul began to rise to heaven. Later on the story, Buddha tells the very same parable to his disciples and explains why the rabbit did so.4NT wrote:Speaking of which, Osamu Tezuka has an awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome series called "Buddha" out by Vertical comics.
Book One of the series briefly covers the rabbit story Sakai-San mentions.
I highly recommend the series.

You should also check out Tezuka's "Adolf", another amazing read. The Tezuka series I'd like to read now is "Black Jack", from which I've only heard wonders.
