Hey. I was just wondering what other comic books that you guys enjoy that are about samurai/ninja (besides Usagi and TMNT). And if they're not published anymore, how to get them. Thanks. :D

Easily the next best Samurai comic book to Usagi is "Lone Wolf and Cub" a.k.a Kozure Ōkami. check this article out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Wolf_and_Cub

As far as ninja comics go, there has to be thousands out there... A manga I used to read was "Kamui", published by Eclipse. It was an awesome series about a half-Ainu ninja. Incidentally "Kamui" is Ainu for god or spirit. Stan even did the lettering and touch-up art for the English version. If you can find them check it out!

I have to agree that the next best samurai comic (manga) is Lone Wolf and Cub (Kozure Ōkami) created by Kazuo Koike and the artist Goseki Kojima. The characters of Lone Goat and Child are Stan's tribute to Koike and Kojima's characters and who have starred in numerous manga reprintings in Japan, as well as several movies and television series.
Dark Horse Press Release wrote:Dark Horse joins forces with Ogami and Daigoro in their fight against the Shogunate as Lone Wolf and Cub returns!

In 1987 American comics fans were introduced to a landmark series of Japanese graphic storytelling — a samurai epic of staggering proportions comprising over 7000 pages of compelling stories and stunning artwork. Lone Wolf and Cub quickly earned a reputation as one of the most remarkable works ever created in the medium of comics, and now — for the first time ever — English-reading fans of writer Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima’s intense and influential series will have access to the entire body of work that encompasses the story of the renegade Shogun’s assassin and his devoted young son.
"It takes you to another time, and to a frightening, alien land, windswept and grey, dying in quiet obedience to insane decrees of insane leaders," said American comics icon Frank Miller, who counts the series among the greatest works of graphic fiction ever crafted. "Its authors took the time and space to tell their tale in its every moment, often devoting many pages to scenes that wouldn’t last three panels in a monthly American superhero comic book. We come to know the players, large and small, as we meet them, as they reveal themselves to us. Koike and Kojima tell their story masterfully and artfully, portraying a man, a boy, and a country on their journey into Hell."
Koike and Kojima had (The artist passed away several years ago) collaborated on a number of other manga series which were based upon Tokugawa era Japanese culture.

Dark Horse just released the eighth of ten volumes in their Samurai Executioner (Kubikiri Asi) series of translations.
Dark Horse Press Release wrote:Dark Horse Comics presents Samurai Executioner, a manga masterwork from the creators of Lone Wolf and Cub!
Dark Horse Comics has announced plans to publish Samurai Executioner, the precursor series to the legendary ronin saga Lone Wolf and Cub. Coming from the same award-winning creative team of Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, Samurai Executioner will be released as a ten volume series scheduled to begin in June 2004.
Before Koike and Kojima created the unforgettable Lone Wolf and Cub character Itto Ogami, they brought to life Kubikiri Asa, better known to Lone Wolf and Cub readers as Decapitator Asaemon. In the Lone Wolf and Cub series, Decapitator Asaemon, equal in ability to Itto, was known as the bearer of the sword Onibocho and was the man in charge of testing weapons for the shogun. The Samurai Executioner series is based on the Decapitator, chronicling his life before his fateful duel with Lone Wolf.

“For the past fifteen years Dark Horse Comics has been a leader in bringing the highest quality manga to the world,” commented Dark Horse President Mike Richardson. “We are proud to present another masterwork from the creators of the greatest manga saga ever, Lone Wolf and Cub. Fans of that series, and fans of manga in general, will revel in this early work from Koike and Kojima.”

Lone Wolf and Cub is a 28 volume series of trade paperbacks and was released in the U.S. for the first time in its entirety by Dark Horse Comics. The series was a smash hit both with manga fans and comics fans in general and set the standard for the presentation of this type of work.

Samurai Executioner features the same legendary drama, frantic action, stoic samurai stature, exemplary art, and storytelling that made Lone Wolf and Cub one of the most popular and influential comic books in history!
This coming summer will see the release of Path of the Assassin (Hanzo-No-Mon) by Koike and Kojima, which is more along the lines of a ninja story, I think.
DARK HORSE BRINGS YOU MORE GREAT MANGA TITLES!

Hmmmm, lessee...

Well, the ones that the previous posters have listed are the obvious ones. They are, in fact, quite good.......marvelous, even.

However, if you're looking for something a little bit more.....light hearted, yet still filled with drama, I would most definently reccomend Rurouni Kenshin.

Yeah, I know that Rurouni Kenshin is supposed to be shonen manga, but its still quite fantastic. :)

.......lessee......oh, you could also get Frank Miller's Ronin. That's pretty awesome, to.

Shi has been recommended to me several times, though I have never read it. New issues are still being published.

I really liked the cover art to the first seies of Shi, but I just could not get interested in the story and interier art.

They did put together a really cool collection of Japanese ghost stories:

SHI: KAIDAN
issue: 1 Oct/1996 b/w comic
"The Soul of the Sword" 6 page story with story and art by Stan Sakai
non-anthropomorphic samurai story

The comic is worth buying just for the this story!
