Sushi all the way! Salmon is my fave, followed by Ama Ebi and Toro.

Sushi for me. My favorite is ikura (salmon eggs).
The Ralph's market in San Diego (just walking distance from the convention center) has an excellent sushi section. It's actually the best sushi we've had in that city. Over the years, we've made friends with the sushi chef, and she makes a few things special for us. We usually pick some up for lunch. So, if you're going to the Con, keep this place in mind.

Hamachi sashimi ...mmmmmmmm
but who doesn't love nigiri sushi. hamachi, tobiko (with the quail egg), toro, unagi, inari and sake are some faves
even recently converted myself to uni - strangely wonderful

I tried some tuna sashimi once, not bad. Kinda chewy though. I never could get use to the idea of cold or raw fish myself.
I have to go with teriyaki on this one.

Me and my brother love cooking and have been experimenting on how to make the best chicken teriyaki ever. So far we've come up with some pretty interesting and even sometimes tastey batches. Course mines always better cause I use real sake.

I like Tempura and Salmon nigiri and Salmon shasimi.

sorry, I didn't translate my sushis! Sake is the word for salmon as well as a very similar sounding word for Sake the rice wine we all love. Our friend Naoko's dad once gave us a demonstration of the subtle differences in pronounciation. I could barely tell the difference. Sa-keh - vs Sak-eH... oh well I guess I'm too much of a gaijin.
So: hamachi= yellowtail tobiko= flying fish roe toro= tuna belly unagi= BBQ sea eel inari= rice, sweet marinated mushrooms, various other goodies in a sweet tofu skin ( known in our house as pillows of pleasure ) ... uni = sea urchin roe.
mmm ... definitely time for a sushi feast!!

I spent a couple of hours on food blogs yesterday finding out about Otoro. I'd never heard of it. I'm thinking it could be a semantics thing - maybe they lump both types of toro together in Canada - but this seems doubtful. I can't believe it's unavailable here either as we have tuna jumping around and getting overfished right outside our doors. So I don't know why it's escaped my knowledge - 'cause, you know, I'm a bit of a foodie and I've had a LOT of sushi. Anyway it's my new holy grail of food. In particular the torched otoro nigiri... man that looks good, followed closely by the sashimi.
Thanks Vonkhan for mentioning it!

Sashimis is more my thing. I like the delicate nature of the salmon and tuna. Just great stuff.
I don't like tempura much, you can't really taste the food, just the coating.

Otoro is the fattiest part of the tuna belly - incredibly soft and absoltuley spectacular

Here's a mini-map to show where otoro comes from:

A beautiful view of otoro
