The NY Public Library has an incredible collection of photographs Beato took in the early 1820s in Japan. Felice Beato was one of the world's first and greatest photgraphers, and the images he captured of Japan are just amazing and beautiful. Enjoy.

I re-posted Tounian's message on the Samurai Archives Citadel Japanese History Forum, where the message from Bethetsu below was quoted from.
Here is another cool link with lots of background information.....
You are most likely correct. It seems Beato was not born until the 1830's.Bethetsu wrote:I did enjoy, but they were probably dated between 1863 and 1884.

I thought at first that the date seemed sort of suspect, but I figured the NY Public Library should have their facts straight. I guess not...Steve Hubbell wrote:I re-posted Tounian's message on the Samurai Archives Citadel Japanese History Forum, where the message from Bethetsu below was quoted from. You are most likely correct. My favorite picture of his is the one of the Satsuma Clan samurai plotting for a battle. It's about half way down the second ebay listing. The sitting samurai with the purple shirt (gi, perhaps?) is able to gaze through space and time and creep me out as much as make me wish I could have seen those times. God I love that photo...Steve Hubbell wrote:Another post from the Samurai Archives.....I am not sure if the member who posted the message is or is not the ebay seller, but I don't think so.MexSamurai wrote:Yeah.
