Namazu-e: Earthquake catfish prints

I thought these were interesting. I don't think I've ever seen any prints like these before.

The Kaname Ishi (rock) is at the Katori Temple in Chiba Prefecture. It pins down the Earthquake fish to keep it from thrashing, and setting off earthquakes. It is a really small stone, considering the job it does. Here is a photo of it:

In some parts of the country, it was believed that earthquakes were caused by a giant underground beetle.

Interesting, I'd never heard of that before, only the earthquake fish.
