We had our first snow of the season over the weekend. Having lived almost all of my life in Texas up to this point, this was a pretty big deal for me! It was by far the most snow I've ever had in a place where I lived and probably the most I've ever seen at one time. Some of my friends here said this is a very early snow and could indicate a very cold winter...hmmm...interesting. Last year, they didn't have the first snow until January.

Anyway, I took a bunch of photos and thought some of you folks might like to see them. Enjoy!

This was Saturday...we got a nice little coat of snow in the late afternoon / evening.


Sunday it really started to fall.

The snow sure seems to go well with the Japanese landscape and architecture. Simply beautiful.

It was quite cold. I wanted to make a big snowman, but after the snowball fight my hands were too cold

I forgot I took this photo...just saw it on my phone and thought I'd drop it in here with the rest. I didn't make the snowmen, just saw them when we were driving around looking at the scenery and thought they were pretty awesome:

I'm curious, how was the weather before it snowed? I see some flowers in one of the photos... something I wouldn't expect for this time of year, especially if you get cold winters (well, in Southern California it's normal, but I really don't know what goes on in more temperate climes... ).
How's your botany? I'm thinking the pink flowers are some type of camellia?

The weather has been cold but fairly nice. The snow came with the first big freeze of the season, and even that only lasted a couple of days. The flowers are at my neighbor's house and he and his wife tend to them with much care. They have a lot of flowers, bonsai trees, and regular trees around the house, so it is not surprising that they've been able to keep them healthy into winter. I don't know much about botany, so your guess is probably much better than mine on the flower types...I just know that they're beautiful and I enjoy seeing them when I leave for work in the morning and come home in the afternoon
