Konichiwa: I have come across an excellent Japanese/English dictionary. It's published by Random House. The front of the book is Japanese to English,but, the part that I find most useful is the second half which is English to Japanese. You get the English word...then how to say it in Japanese...then the Kanji ideogram(s). Plus it tells you whether it is a noun or a verb. I've highlighted the heck out of two copies(one to keep at home and one to carry with me). A most useful book.

I'v come acoss that book befor, But I use "Everyday Japanese" by Schwarz/Ezawa- It has that some but mostly teaches you how to get by, proper manenr and greetings ect- I thought of getting a dictionary, but I think tryingot learn sentinces and phrases is better then just one word- Plus it just anout changesd prospective once it is combined with another word- ^^*

I bought a webster's New World Japanese / English - English / Japanese Dictionary several years ago which sounds pretty similar to yours. I loaned it to my nephews a while back because I had been giving them UY trade paperbacks for birthdays and holidays over the last several years.

The local library here (Kalamazoo Public Library, selected National Library of the Year 2002) has a used bookstore to help raise money for the library. In it, I found a copy of a Sanseido's New Concise Japanese / English Dictionary which lists Japanese words with their meaning in English. Printed in Tokyo in 1975 with a slip case and imitation leather cover. Really Cool...

Finally, I just bought a Collins Gem English / Japanese Dictionary (since the Webster's loaned out).

Now, I just have to figure out learn new Japanese words faster than I tend to forget them...

I have that identical book--same copyright year, imitation blue leather, and a clear plastic dust jacket.

Takahashi's Pocket Romanized English-Japanese Dictionary, and The Japanese-English Dictionary of Japanese Culture are both quite handy for me, and I frequently refer to a few others such as E. Papinot's Historical and Geographical Dictionary of Japan.
