Hi Dusty,

Welcome back. I haven't seen you in years. The last time was at Fanime in Santa Clara. I think you had one of the coolest jobs back then--driving a Zamboni.

I'm a Beatles fan too. My favorite is also Sgt Pepper.

The very first live concert that editor Diana went to was the Beatles. This was at the Montreal or Toronto concert where the concert was shut down and the stadium closed when the crowds went wild and rushed the stage after the third song.

Such a shame the beatles dont live on.. well.. atleast not all of them do.

Personally, i think their sons should get to gether and try to start a band, because they all fairly good (especially Sean Lennon), but they dont..

I can't believe you said that! I've said the same thing myself! They could have a "Beatles: The Next Generation". Paul McCartney has a son James that is supposed to be musical. Dhani Harrison plays guitar. Zak Starkey (Ringo's son) plays drums, and in addition to Sean there is Julian Lennon.

Zak Starkey

Post by Andy »

Ringo's son Zak is playing for the Who now when they are in concert. He was born in '65, so he's my age. I read an article that said Keith Moon kind of mentored him and his style of drumming is more like Moon's than his Dad's.

In answer to the first question of this topic...

Age 30.

I drive an airport shuttle bus in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I've been following Usagi since the early 90s - had a friend at the time who introduced me to the token paperbacks - he had #5. As of this writing, I own all but one of the published TPs, that one being #4, the Dragon Bellow Conspiracy. This was one of my first introductions to Japanese mythology and some aspects of its culture. Kudos to Sakai-sensei for taking the words from the book, and giving them life. :-)

Hobbies? I study a plethora of the sciences, from astrophysics to cultural anthropology, I listen to a mountain of different bands - from Johnny Cash to KMFDM, just as long as they well, don't suck.

UY

Post by Freefall951 »

Hello! I think this is my 1st post, i'm a bit of a lurker. :P

I am 24 and in Upstate NY. Maybe i'll see fellow fans in San Diego this summer!

I got into UY a couple years ago, when I heard rumors of the TMNT coming back with a CGI flick. (Which fell through, but i've became an active fan on the mailing list that wrote loads of letters to fox, so now we have a greak cartoon! I'm really happy to see UY in the TMNT universe again!) Well after a lot of catching up with the TMNT world, I came across UY! -So being a huge fan of one made me into a fan of the other.

I only have a few collected books so far, but i'm working on it! College left me broke, so only now i'm starting to buy comics again.

Well, since you asked...

I have a Ph.D. in chemistry (Dartmouth 1991) and am currently working for a US-based agrichemical company. I am also a published (read, hack) author, a popular (read, hack) entertainer, an Usagi Yojimbo fan for about the last 16 years, and the chairman of the largest anthropomorphics convention in the world.

I also like key lime pie even though it's not good for me.

Mr. Sakai will be my guest in Philadelphia in about 4 weeks' time at Anthrocon (http://www.anthrocon.org).

Probably no one's going to read this, but since I'm on the forum, I might as well.

Age: 18 (19 come Christmas)

Interests: Movies, specifically Indiana Jones (as you could probably tell), the original Star Wars trilogy, Aliens, Mad Max, the Road Warrior, Evil Dead 2, the even-numbered Star Trek movies (the only good ones) Spider-man and its sequels (hee hee), the first Batman movie with Mihcael Keaton, and hopefully, the upcoming Batman Begins movie with Christian Bale.

Oh, and I like drawing, writing, Usagi Yojimbo.

Usagi Encounter: I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but I first passed by Usagi when I saw him in the TPB comics section of the library. I picked one up (I think it was Demon Mask), and thought it looked too silly for me, as I was into dark kind of storylines back then. That would have been a year ago. About a month after that, I decided to give it a chance as I was low on fresh reading material. I started with Demon Mask and read them all out of order. But I couldn't get enough. It was such a change of pace from the usual superhero comic stuff I was used to reading (as well as taking anthropomorphism seriously), that I kept renewing them until I had all the TPBs the Library had and then sat down and read them in as much chronological order as I could figure. And then read them again and again and again...needless to say, I was hooked ever since. Theey're such quick reads (but good reads) that you can't help waiting for the next TPB or comic--an anticipation I had not experienced for quite some time.

Thank you, Mr. Stan Sakai, for reminding me why I love this medium.

Joe here. I'm 35 years old from Michigan. I work for a law firm in the administration department. I've been aware of Usagi for a long time (I used to thumb through issues at the local comic shop), but just recently started getting into it, buying the collections. I can't stop reading them!

As for hobbies, I've been studying Japanese for about two and a half years at a community college. A little over a year ago I started practicing Tamiya Ryu iaijutsu. I play a little guitar, and just started learning how to work a forge with a friend of mine.

I'm glad I found this place. A big thanks to Stan for his amazing, engaging creation!
