Re: SDCC Shopping List
I talked to a guy yesterday that was sixth in line to get into the convention and he went straight to the Nick booth and was unable to get an Usagi figure. Sounds like you have to be on the floor *before* they open to get one. I don't have that sort of early access, so I give up.

That's a bummer. And frustrating. Stuff like that makes what should be an enjoyable event, not so enjoyable.jabba359 wrote:I talked to a guy yesterday that was sixth in line to get into the convention and he went straight to the Nick booth and was unable to get an Usagi figure. Re: SDCC Shopping List
That sucks that the people that care about getting an item that means something to them and they can add to their collection that they may have been building for decades get screwed over by a group that doesn't really care about what they are getting other than for the purpose of making a bunch of money off someone else.

All good jabba, go enjoy yourself.
Thanks for trying, and for everything you did already help us get.

On the positive side, it's good to see Usagi growing in popularity. There are more people talking about Usagi than I've heard before. It seems like Stan's booth has been super busy. I'm glad to see the Nickelodeon show and crossover series are generating so much interest in all things Usagi.

Exactly! That why TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo crossover is so important to building a new and younger fans. The more fans, the more exposure and opportunities for more Usagi stories in different media. I wish there could be a deal like Cartoon Books did with Scholastic for Bone. Imagine if Usagi was suddenly available to all those 4-6th graders In quarterly Scholastic catalogues and middle school book fairs? Usagi reprinted in color might not be ideal but it would be awesome to expose millions of school children to Usagi.
Thanks again Kyle for waiting in long lines to pick up the SDCC versions of our Usagi collectibles. So generous and kind. I join the other grateful fans here that appreciate all you do for the dojo. Peace, maka

Well put Jabba and Maka
I am so happy that I found my way to Usagi and hopefully many others do. After TMNT on Sunday, hoards of new fans should be created.

Re: SDCC Shopping List
This is a bit late of a posting, but I finally had a chance to flip through some of Stan's bigger pieces of art today and get some photos. I'm extremely tempted to pick up a piece...or two... My wallet would be hating me.
There are some very rare opportunities to pick up an original unused page, a couple complete Usagi non-main continuity pages (I'm having a hard time talking myself out of the Sixth Gun intro pages), and some unpublished covers. One in particular that Mayhem will really like.
I think I set the permissions correctly so anybody can see the gallery. If you have problems, let me know and I'll see if I can fix them.

As for shopping, I got all the 2017 Usagi sketchbooks purchased today (signed by both Stan and Julie since they both have art in it) and it's a really nice sketchbook. Certainly worth the extra $5 over last year's, as it has a perfect bound spine instead of being stapled. Stan and Daniel did a really nice job putting this sketchbook together and the quality is definitely the best yet. I think I'm pretty much done except for a couple odds and ends and managed to get just about everything requested. Of course, if Nickelodeon dropped a pallet of figures off by my car that would go a long ways to finishing up the rest of the list.
Regarding the free Nickelodeon print, they gave out tickets to attend the signing with Stan (without advance warning it was going to be ticketed), so I missed those. On the bright side, it was just Turtles animated series art that Stan didn't create and didn't feature Usagi at all, so probably not something anybody will really miss.
The Nickelodeon TMNT panel was good, featuring both Stan and voice actor Yuki Matsuzaki (Usagi) and we got to see an extended clip. I think everyone will be pretty pleased, as it was very good. I can't wait to see it. I believe it airs Sunday morning while I'm at the convention, so I'll have to catch it tomorrow night instead. There were no major announcements other than the Walmart 12" Usagi figure should arrive in stores beginning August 7th, so keep an eye out for that.
And that's about all I can think of. This is the first night I haven't been dead tired, so thought I better take advantage and put an update out. I'll be sure to post more if I hear anything else interesting!

Re: SDCC Shopping List
Awesome review / update, Kyle, almost like being there myself except I didn't have to stand in line or deal with crowds.
You are definitely right about those unused pages, covers, and especially the pages for the 6th Gun introduction! So tempting, but unfortunately my wallet would laugh at me and say "Keep Dreaming!"
I now know that I will be buying the new 6th Gun collection when it comes out, it will be worth it just for Stan's intro, and who knows, maybe I will enjoy it enough to pick up the earlier volumes.
Thanks again for all your assists filling all the want lists for us Dojo members who are enjoying SDCC viscerally (?) through your posts and your efforts.....

Re: SDCC Shopping List
Wow-wow, big thanks for this album, it's always so good to see these pictures, I have the ones from last year on my computer. I would love to buy one or two, but unfortunately I have to pass now
.
(I know I'm greedy, but any chance to see photos of the smaller arts?
)
Thanks the review as well, I'm really looking forward to see these TMNT episodes.

Presume you mean the unused TMNT/Usagi crossover cover?jabba359 wrote:One in particular that Mayhem will really like.![]()

(Yes, my credit card is telling me I must have it, but trying to resist! If you compare they are quite similar, but you can easily spot the differences)
Nice to see some of the art that Stan presumably drew while he was here for his portfolio, not sure I'd caught that. Love the Sixth Gun pages, I didn't realise Stan had done an intro for that heh. Someone has to snap up that #161 unused cover though! The differences are a lot more subtle though compared to the TMNT/Usagi covers...
The clip from Usagi/TMNT Nick episode has been put online btw, if you look to FB and elsewhere...
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

It is awesome fun to see new Sakai art. Thanks for posting. I can't wait for the new Sixth Gun Vol. 4 gunslinger edition to come out and see Stan's art on nice quality paper. Thanks for sharing! Peace, maka
