Grasscutter question

Post by Garret »

Doing a little writing and unfortunately I can't consult my collection due to my current situation (I'm living on an aircraft carrier floating around the pacific ocean). I'm trying to remember the names of the witch and her minion from the first Grasscutter series. Also, what species is the minion supposed to be?

Any assistance/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Kitanamono was supposed to be some kind of obakémono, so I'm not sure if he is supposed to be of any species.

Wasn't Kitanamono simply a kitanamono (Stan using the name of the creature for the person)?

Sweet, assistance is greatly appreciated.

I had tried poking around the site but hadn't turned anything useful (or at least anything that I happened to notice).

This is enough to get me started and hopefully lead me to more answers and questions.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Well, next time, look at http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/comics/index.html :-) There, you can find all the UY comics usually with a synopsis of the story in them.

Well, I had tried looking around the site and was having trouble looking for the answers. I looked at the Grasscutter section, and it didn't make any mention of Ryoko and Kitanamono. Looking through the characters sections was rough cause I could remember there names. I didn't find the comic sysnopis that you linked to though.

Thanks for the help though :)

Hi! Actually, I remember a comment made by Tokuo, a Neko Ninja who was spying on the Conspiracy of Eight. (Check in Dark Horse UY Issue #40). When he's giving his report to Chizu, he mentions Kitanamono: "Never before had I seen his like...I learned later that he was a member of a remote mountain people." So, maybe we'll see more about Kitanamono's background and people at some time in the future. That'd be cool. By the way, the word "kitanamono" is translated from Japanese as meaning "unclean person". Interesting!

You'll meet Neneki in UY issue 66.

Usagi is not a monthly book. It comes out roughly 9 or 10 times a year. This gives me time to work on other projects such as the trade collections, and allows me to take a few trips for convention appearances and vacations (I travel about 8 weeks in a typical year). April was a "skip month". The next skip will be after issue #68, then after #71. We try not to schedule breaks during a multi-part story, unless it's a very extended story arc as in the case of Grasscutter.

Thanks for clearing that up, I never realized Usagi wasn't monthly. So you are going to be at comic con this year right? Do you always bring old back issues to the con, or do we have to make a wish list on here of older issues we can't find? If so, let me know, and I will tell you which ones I need. Also, I live in San Diego, so if theres anything you want to know about the area, transportation, restaurants, best places to stay, etc, feel free to ask. Also, if you're interested, I heard the Landmark Ken movie theater, which is close to downtown San Diego, will be having another Kurosawa/Mifune weekend, where they'll be showing 7 Samuari, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Rashomon, Throne of blood, Stray Dog, and High and Low. Don't know which films will be showing at what times yet, but maybe it would be a good thing for the whole Usagi dojo to go see, to get a feel for where some of your inspiration comes from. Any questions, e-mail me at Chewyska@aol.com.
