Awesome Issue #66 Out! Spoilers Inside-Read Then Come Chat
Finally!! A two-month wait well-worth waiting through (that's not grammatically correct, is it ?)! "Sumi-e" gets off to a great start. Usagi and Jotaro's talk about the mushrooms was a good joke. "Matsutake gohan" sounds like a tasty dish. Great scene with the bandit and his reaction. The giant mukade (centipede) was realistically scary-looking. Sasuke is back! It's good to see him again. Jotaro's comment was funny ("Uncle Usagi, you know the neatest people!" He's already met Chizu, Kitsune, Nakamura Koji...when does he get to meet Tomoe and Lord Noriyuki?). Excellent scene of the painter slowly but surely making more ink and creating another monster, very cinematic in a way. Ha! I wonder how many other "classic" monsters we'll be seeing before this is over...Ghidira, perhaps? I was surprised by Usagi's incredulity regarding paintings coming to life. Surely he can't have forgotten the demon painter Goyemon and his creations in "The Doors"? can't wait for the next issue. And Stan Sakai really outdid himself with the comprehensive story notes. Great information! One question: this Heian nobleman, Kyogoku, was an actual historical figure, right? What prompted Stan Sakai to choose him as the "villain" of the story as opposed to someone else? Is this an actual legend regarding this person? Just curious...

I also really liked Jotaro's comment about knowing so many neat people. Good line. Did anyone else think that the issue was kinda on the short side? I forgot to see how many pages were in it, but it felt like I breezed through it much faster than I usually go through Usagi's. Not that I am complaining in any way, shape or form. I still feel privledged to be able to get my monthly supply of the Sakai universe, as well as my constant reading of back issues. It just seemed so short... Maybe I'm crazy.
"Aragorn... Don't tell the elf about this"
"We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we Wang?"
"No Horse sh%t Jack?"
"No Horse sh%t Wang."

I don’t think the book was actually shorter (page wise). The dialogue just wasn’t there. A few pages of painting and some action scenes made it a quick read.Tounian wrote:Did anyone else think that the issue was kinda on the short side? Wasn't that in one of the Color Specials? I thought Stan once said that those happened later on in Usagi's life.Akahige wrote:I was surprised by Usagi's incredulity regarding paintings coming to life. Surely he can't have forgotten the demon painter Goyemon and his creations in "The Doors"?

That's true, according to Stan, the UY Color Specials actually take place in the future sometime. So he wouldn't have encountered Goyemon yet. That actually sort of contradicts the UY Timeline in the RPG from Gold Rush Games... they had the first 3 Color Specials taking place between the 5th and 6th chapters of the Dragon Bellow Conspiracy. Maybe we should get that revised......
