a little help, please

Post by Stan Sakai »

I'm in Hawaii right now and don't have access to my references. I'm still working on UY 71, however, which details a bit about Katsuichi-sensei's earlier life. Have I ever mentioned the name of the sword-school or style of swordsmanship he studied. I know he rejected the Eight Kyoto styles.

The answer might be in UY 57 or 58--the one where they visit his old friend who has now take over as master of the school.

If it's never been mentioned, I'll make something up, like The Blowing Grass style or something. Any suggestions?

Mahalo and aloha,
Stan

I did a quick scan through 57-59 and didn't see any reference as to the name of Katsuichi's technique... so looks like your in the clear!

In issue #57, the only thing mentioned about Katsuichi-sensei's school is that his instructor was Fujiyama-sensei. About the Eight Kyoto Styles, I haven't found much on the internet (I haven't searched thoroughly, though). The only kenjutsu style I have found is Katori Shinto Ryu, created in the 1400's by Choisai Ienao, although this is not strictly a kenjutsu style, but a military arts academy focused on fighting on the battlefield, and included different weapons. There are other major schools, but they were created on the 1500's or later, so I don't think they'll be useful at all. Sorry :P . Perhaps someone has been able to find anything more useful...

Most of the styles used by my characters are made up anyway, so they do not have to be researched. Thanks, though.

I don't recall you mentioning anything about a specific name Stan and a quick check through my collection (complete) revealed nothing either. So either my memory fails me or you're good to make something up ;)

Perhaps when we learn more about why it is that Katsuichi-sensei's style is considered to be very "unconventional", that may give us some clue as to an appropriate name? 8)
