Wouldn't humans stand out in Usagi Yojimbo?

Post by SakuradaKaoru »

Yeah, I saw the TMNT episodes, but humans appear to be so few and far between in the comics that a large hairless creature with 10 fingers instead of 8 would really stick out. If it weren't for Lord Hikiji being high society, he probably would have been considered the strange one.

I do not mean any disrespect by saying this. I'm just thinking "out loud."
Hmm... how to best express myself in signature form?

Well, I'm back. I need to get back into the series, been so long since I read volume 7.

There are no humans in the Usagi Yojimbo comic.

Lork Hikiji wasn't human. That's just your eyes playing tricks on you. ;)

In all seriousness, I believe Stan has said that he wishes he didn't make him human but that could just be my memory playing tricks on me.

I got corrected on that one by Stan himself a while back... he wishes he'd not shown him, rather than not make him human.

I always liked that about Lord Hikiji. It makes him seem more sinister, being the only human in the world. Maybe it's just me, but with anthropomorphic characters there's always a little of the "cuteness" factor in the back of my mind, no matter what they're doing. Hikiji doesn't have that. He's evil through and through. So I like that we got to see him once (and maybe next month in #123? though I doubt it...), rather than just having him in the shadows all the time.

Stan posted a blog entry a while ago explaining why Hikiji was drawn as a human:
