General who lead the army of his cousin Lord Araki into a battle
against Lord Mataichi, the father of Noriyuki, then Lord Araki
challenged his lord for the control of the land
(see The Patience of the Spider).
Unfortunately, the rebellion failed, the army was defeated and
Ikeda barely got away with his life but with a severe leg-wound which
haunted him ever since: Several times, his leg failed him. Once, this killed
his first son because he was unable to pull him out of a irrigation
ditch.
Hiding as a simple peasant, he waited for a new chance to seize
the power but when his chances came, other things had got more
dear to him. Even when Lord Noriyuki's life depended on him,
he didn't betray his honor and helped the young lord to survive
against great odds and at a high personal risk.
In the events in which Usagi brought Grasscutter back to Atsua
Shrine, he died while holding off a group of ninjas so Usagi
could get the sword to safety.
He leaves a son and a wife behind but Lord Noriyuki promised him
to accept his son into his court when he is of age.
