Synopsis: In the prologue to Grasscutter II: Journey to Atsuta Shrine, the sequel to the Eisner Award-winning serialized story, we look back to Japan's 3rd century and the founding of Atsuta Shrine.
Yamato-Dake, heir to the Sword of the Gods, Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, made a vow to rid the land of the evil diety of Mount Ibuki, a giant serpent that terrorized the surrounding villages. He fought his way through a devastating storm, fatigue and past a monstrous boar. Finally, unarmed, he met his final foe.
The sequel to the longest UY epic ever is coming soon! Join Usagi, Gen, and Sanshobo as they make their way to Atsuta Shrine, the official shrine of Kusanagi-No-Tsurugi, the grasscutting sword of the gods. This adventure is sure to be awesome. It will pick up where the original series left off, as detailed in the beginning of UY #23. Priest Sanshobo, fearing that the Grasscutter sword will not be safe at his temple, decides to journey with Usagi and Gen to the famous Atsuta Shrine, one of three major shrines in Japan that house the Sacred Treasures of the Imperial Family. Their mission: secretly replace the counterfeit Grasscutter with the real version!
Stan has been sketchy on this storyline, mainly because it is still in the preliminary thought stages. Will it contain the Chizu/Neko Ninja Clan epic that Stan left out of the first Grasscutter story? Most likely. What about Lord Hikiji? Could be. I asked if Usagi would be meeting up with Tomoe Ame in this sequel, and he said "maybe". Obviously he is being very tight-lipped about it at the moment, but more info will surely surface soon. I asked if this sequel will contain the previously announced origin of Jei storyline slated for the future. Stan said "definitely not, the Jei origin story is still a ways off".
