This chapter begins when Usagi is proving his battle skills by dueling
in order to get hired as a retainer of Lord Tamakuro. Usagi impresses the
lord by deafeting Takohana and he's hired as an officer.
Meanwhile, Gen is in a house with the two women who have met Ino in
chapter 2. When he learns that Ino is near, he leaves the house and goes
after him.
Back at Lord Tamakuro's town, Usagi is chatting with Captain Torame and
Torame tells him that a rebellion against one's lord can be justified...
Ino is walking when Spot finds a raincoat and smells it to finds out that
it's Usagi's raincoat. He makes Ino follow him to Usagi.
Back at the town, Lord Tamakuro says he's almost ready to move against
the shogun and asks Torame to execute Tomoe. Usagi goes to the prison in
order to find Tomoe and he's able to bluff the guards and go to her.
When he finds her, she tells him of Tamakuro's plot against the Shogun,
and bids him to leave her imprisoned there and report back to Noriyuki.
Usagi doesn't listen and decides to rescue her anyway. Tomoe's
executioners then show up at the prison and Usagi gets rid of them and
flees with Tomoe. Torame learns of the escape and sends some men to get
them.
Usagi is able to get out of the gates in time, but Tomoe decides to
stay inside, much to Usagi's protest. Usagi then goes to warn
Lord Noriyuki while Tomoe is hiding in the fortress. Usagi is then
trapped by a patrol, but he manages to kill two of the three men and just
before he gets slain by the third man, the third man gets killed by a
shuriken. Usagi then finds himself half-dead in front of Shingen.
